Prince of Wales announces five winners of the Earthshot Prize 2025 during a ceremony held on Wednesday night (5) in Rio de Janeiro.
Each environmental solution selected received £1 million to accelerate projects to combat climate change.
The event, broadcast to 34 million people in Brazil and the United Kingdom, marked the fifth year of the award created by the royal in 2020.
The award ceremony took place before COP30 and was attended by CEOs, indigenous leaders and young activists.
Visit to Christ the Redeemer
Prince William started the day in Rio’s postcard.
He met with the 15 finalists at the top of Corcovado.
Before the meeting, he spoke with Cardinal Orani João Tempesta and Father Omar Raposo, responsible for the sanctuary.
Finalists participate in a year-long program with mentoring, global visibility and free legal support.
