Yamaha Motor Company held the global launch of the XSR155 this Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan. The model, with a starting price of US$3,200, is part of the Sport Heritage family with a retro design and components derived from the MT-15. The company positions the bike as a compact option for riders who prioritize classic style and current technology.

The presentation took place at the Yokohama convention center, with online transmission for Asian, European and North American markets. Production begins in factories in Thailand and India to meet initial demand.

Technical specifications include a 155 cc single-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Actuation. The system delivers 18.1 hp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm at 8,500 rpm.

  • Transmission: six speeds with assist and slipper clutch
  • Brakes: Two-channel ABS with 282 mm front and 220 mm rear discs
  • Weight: 134 kg in running order

Classic style combined with modern engineering

The design adopts circular LED headlight and teardrop-shaped tank to remitto 1970s motorcycles. The monochrome LCD panel maintains a simple interface, while the single seat reinforces the upright posture for urban use.

The Deltabox chassis uses high-strength steel tubes, combined with inverted front forks and a connected rear monoshock. 17-inch wheels with 110/70 tires at the front and 140/70 at the rear guarantee stability in curves.

Motor with VVA technology for optimized delivery

The 155 cc liquid-cooled engine incorporates variable valve timing to improve response at low revs. This configuration allows for progressive accelerations in dense traffic and efficient restarts at intermediate speeds.

Yamaha reports an average consumption of 45 km/l in the WMTC cycle, with a 10-liter tank that offers a range of more than 400 km. The electronic injection system adjusts the mixture in real time according to altitude and temperature.

Traction control monitors the rear wheel and reduces power in cases of slippage. Dual ABS acts independently on each wheel, with sensors that detect blockage in 0.1 second.

The six-speed transmission keeps the engine in the ideal power range, with short ratios in the first gears for quick exits.

Available colors and customization packages

Four paint options make up the global catalogue: Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic and Metallic Blue. All variants maintain the same base price in each region.

Two official accessory kits accompany the launch. The Scrambler package includes a 25mm raised suspension, engine guards and mixed-use tires.

The Café Racer kit adds a sports seat, low handlebars and rear-view mirrors at the ends. Each package costs US$450 and includes installation at authorized dealers.

  • Scrambler components: raised exhaust, recessed footpegs and off-road stickers
  • Café Racer components: front fairing, exhaust tips and sports graphics

Positioning in the premium entry segment

The XSR155 competes directly with models such as the Honda CB150R Streetfire in Asia and the Kawasaki W175 in Europe. Yamaha differentiates itself through onboard electronics, including controlled traction absent from rivals.

Compared to the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, the XSR155 offers 20% less weight and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds. Tests on a dry track record a maximum speed of 135 km/h.

The aluminum swingarm reduces unsprung mass by 1.2 kg compared to steel versions. Mass centralization lowers the center of gravity by 15 mm, improving agility when changing direction.

International distribution and logistics

Yamaha plans 50,000 units in the first year, with 40% destined for Southeast Asia. Factories in Rayong, Thailand, operate in three shifts to meet 30-day deadlines.

Dealers in Europe will receive the first batches in December 2025, with Euro 5 approval already completed. North American markets await EPA certification by January 2026.

The global service network covers 120 countries, with software updates via USB in workshops. Replacement parts arrive within 72 hours at regional centers.
