The United States Navy released images of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group operating in Latin American waters. The vessel, considered the largest in the world, arrived in the region accompanied by destroyers and cruisers equipped with advanced defense systems. The action takes place amid increased tensions with Venezuela.
The naval complex has more than 4,000 soldiers and dozens of combat aircraft. The photos show F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters, E-2D Hawkeye early warning planes and EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft in activity. The presence reinforces the ability to project American power in the area.
Strike group composition
The USS Gerald R. Ford serves as the group’s operational hub. The vessel carries up to 75 aircraft and operates with electromagnetic catapult technology.
The air wing includes full squadrons of multi-role fighters. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet performs attack and air superiority missions in all weather conditions.
Escorts and defense systems
Three Arleigh Burke-class destroyers accompany the aircraft carrier. The ships USS Bainbridge, USS Mahan and USS Winston S. Churchill have the Aegis combat system.
These destroyers have vertical launchers for SM-6, Tomahawk and ESSM missiles. The configuration allows for layered anti-aircraft defense and attack on distant ground targets.
The Aegis system integrates SPY-1 radars capable of tracking hundreds of targets simultaneously.taneously. The combination creates protection against ballistic missiles and hostile aircraft.
Capabilities of embarked aircraft
The F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters operate with precision-guided weaponry. The aircraft perform interdiction and close air support missions.
E-2D Hawkeye aircraft provide early warning and air traffic control. The equipment detects targets more than 500 kilometers away.
MH-60R helicopters conduct anti-submarine warfare and search. The units rely on sonar and torpedoes to neutralize underwater threats.
Integration with air forces
Images show joint operation with B-52 Stratofortress bomber. US Air Force aircraft fly in formation with the naval group.
The B-52 carries long-range cruise missiles and guided bombs. The presence expands the task force’s strategic range of action.
Naval presence in the region
The strike group maintains routine training and patrol operations. Activities include air defense and anti-submarine exercises.
The American Navy has been carrying out regular deployments to Latin America since 2024. The missions involve cooperation with allied countries in the region.
The current configuration allows quick response to different operational scenarios. The naval ensemble remains on alert throughout the staynence in Latin American waters.
