New Fiat Fastback appears in tests with a radical look and fully digitalized interior
The national automotive industry is preparing for a profound renovation of one of its most emblematic models in the coupe SUV segment. The Fiat began testing the new generation of the Fastback on European soil, revealing structural changes that promise to raise the vehicle’s technological and design standards. The project includes the adoption of an unprecedented global architecture for the model, in addition to a visual identity that breaks with current lines in favor of a more straight and robust aesthetic.
The development of this new vehicle occurs at a strategic moment for Stellantis, which seeks to unify platforms to optimize production and energy efficiency. The recent captures at Itália show camouflaged prototypes that are already circulating with definitive bodywork and optical components. Embora the manufacturer maintains secrecy about specific launch dates, the sector’s expectation is that the model will reach Brazilian dealerships between the end of 2026 and the first half of 2027.
- Adoption of the Smart Car/CMP platform from the Stellantis group.
- Introduction of mild hybrid powertrain for greater efficiency.
- Interior with drastic reduction in physical buttons and enlargement of screens.
- Maintenance of the sports version Abarth with a 185 hp engine.
External design gains straight lines and robust identity
The new utility’s photographic records indicate that Fiat chose to follow the visual language presented in Grande Panda, prioritizing flat surfaces and geometric cuts. The front of the vehicle features a noticeably higher hood and a vertical front grille, which gives the SUV a more imposing stage presence. The LED headlights have become narrower and more integrated into the set, following a global design trend that emphasizes a minimalist light signature.
Even with the radical restyling, the characteristic coupe silhouette, with the gentle drop of the roof towards the rear, remains the central pillar of the project. Essa choice preserves the sporty appeal that has established the model since its debut, ensuring that the car continues to attract audiences looking for a different look compared to conventional SUVs.
Redesigned rear increases lighting and changes license plate position
At the rear of the vehicle, the changes are structural and aim to alter the perception of the car’s width and height. The rear lights were repositioned at a higher point on the body, integrating more fluidly into the design of the trunk lid. Essa technical modification requires a new study of aerodynamics and visibility, ensuring that the style does not compromise lighting functionality in adverse conditions.
Another relevant change observed in the prototypes is the displacement of the license plate support, which leaves the rear lid and now occupies a space in the bumper. Este tipo de ajuste no design é comumente utilizado para limpar o visual da parte superior do carro, permitindo que o logotipo da marca e os vincos da lataria ganhem mais destaque visual para quem observa o veículo por trás.
100% digitalized interior prioritizes technology and ergonomics
The cabin of the new Fastback will undergo a complete transformation, focused on eliminating physical analog controls and expanding connectivity. The instrument panel will be replaced by a high-resolution digital screen with enlarged dimensions, allowing the driver to customize the information displayed according to the driving mode. The multimedia center also grows, taking on a prominent position at the top of the panel to facilitate handling and viewing of maps and applications.
The central console was raised to provide superior ergonomics, finished in noble materials such as glossy black in top versions. The gear selector for automatic transmissions follows the European Stellantis standard, being replaced by smaller and more discreet controls, which frees up space for storage compartments and induction cell phone chargers.
Fiat invested in renewing finishing materials to increase the perception of luxury inside the vehicle. The front seats now have partially integrated headrests, reminiscent of the style of high-performance cars and offering better lateral support. The synthetic coating with geometric graphics complements the modern environment, aligning the interior with the technological proposal of the new platform.
Platform Smart Car expands internal space for passengers
The transition to the Smart Car/CMP architecture is the biggest technical advance of this new generation, as it allows structural flexibility that the previous base did not offer. The Esta platform is shared with successful models from the Citroën and Opel, and is recognized for its lightness and impact absorption capacity. Para the consumer, the main advantage will be the real increase in the wheelbase, which should jump from the current 2.53 meters to a range close to 2.64 meters, directly benefiting legroom in the rear seat.
With this new base, the Fastback gains in stability and acoustic insulation capacity, as the platform was designed to support different types of propulsion, including electrical sets. The CMP’s more compact mechanical arrangement allows the cabin to be better utilized, eliminating part of the central tunnel and offering greater comfort for the fifth passenger, correcting one of the specific criticisms of the first generation model.
Hybrid engine and Abarth variant produced in the Brasil
The commitment to energy efficiency will lead the new Fastback to adopt light electrification systems in its intermediate and luxury versions. The 1.0 turbo flex engine will be integrated into a hybrid system that helps when starting off and reduces fuel consumption on urban journeys, without the need for external recharging. Essa technology is essential for the model to meet new emissions targets and offer a more competitive running cost for the owner.
For performance enthusiasts, the Fiat will maintain the emblematic Abarth version in national production with the 1.3 turbo engine. Este engine delivers up to 185 hp of power when fueled with ethanol, guaranteeing acceleration and recovery figures that position it as one of the fastest SUVs in its category. Suspension and brake calibration for this version will continue to be exclusive, focused on delivering a sporty and precise driving experience.
National production guarantees competitiveness in the South American market
The maintenance of the assembly line in Brasil reaffirms the country’s importance as an export hub for Stellantis in América Latina. The investment in the new CMP platform allows the factory to receive cutting-edge technologies in stamping and robotic welding processes, increasing the final quality of the product delivered to the consumer. Além to supply the domestic market, the new generation of Fastback should be exported to neighbors such as Argentina and Chile, consolidating the brand’s presence on the continent.
