Xiaomi has started the pre-sales period at China for the new version of its electric sedan, the SU7, with official launch scheduled for April. The model arrives with significant updates, highlighting the universal adoption of an 800-volt electrical architecture in all its configurations, which promises to drastically optimize recharging times and the vehicle’s energy efficiency. The improvements respond directly to feedback from early owners and aim to strengthen the SU7’s position in an increasingly competitive market.

The vehicle will continue to be offered in three distinct variants to suit different consumer profiles: Standard, Pro and Max. Starting values have been adjusted and start at 229,900 yuan, an increase compared to the previous generation, but which is justified by the technological advances incorporated. The company’s strategy is clear: to consolidate its presence in the premium electric vehicle segment, offering a robust package of performance, technology and autonomy.

With the new specifications, Xiaomi not only improves its product, but also sends a strong message to established competitors such as Tesla and other Chinese manufacturers. The combination of a high-voltage electrical system, extended range and an advanced suite of driving assistance technologies positions the SU7 as one of the most anticipated models of the year in the Asian market, with the potential to redefine consumer expectations.

Advances in the electric platform

The main technical evolution of the new Xiaomi SU7 is the complete migration to an 800 volt platform, abandoning the 400 volt technology that still equipped some versions of the previous generation. Essa structural change is fundamental, as it allows the vehicle to operate more efficiently, reducing energy losses during use and, mainly, enabling support for ultra-fast charging stations. The high-voltage architecture optimizes current flow to all components, from the engine to auxiliary systems, resulting in more consistent and reliable performance. In the top-of-the-line version, the Max, system voltage can approach 900 volts, an engineering feat that maximizes power delivery and puts the SU7 on par with the world’s most advanced electric vehicles. The Xiaomi engineers managed to integrate higher energy density batteries without compromising the original chassis structure, ensuring that performance gains were not accompanied by an excessive increase in the vehicle’s weight.

Recharging and autonomy redefined

One of the most tangible benefits of the new 800V architecture is charging speed. The Max version of the SU7 is capable of recovering enough energy to travel up to 670 kilometers in just 15 minutes connected to a compatible Xiaomi supercharger. Esse performance represents an important milestone, making long-distance journeys more practical and significantly reducing waiting times for drivers. The Standard and Pro versions also benefit, with considerably shorter recharge times compared to their predecessors, a crucial factor for convenience in everyday use.

Autonomy has also been increased across the board. The big highlight is the Pro version, which now promises to reach an impressive 902 kilometers on a single charge, according to the Chinese CLTC test cycle. The entry-level version, Standard, offers a range of 720 kilometers, while the high-performance variant, the Max, records 835 kilometers, balancing power and efficiency. It is important to note that the CLTC cycle numbers tend to be more optimistic than those of the global WLTP standard, but they still represent a notable advance and place the SU7 among the autonomy leaders in its segment.

Performance and driving dynamics

All SU7 configurations are equipped with the new V6s Plus electric motor, which can reach up to 22,000 revolutions per minute, ensuring vigorous acceleration and immediate responses.

To improve traction and stability, especially during strong acceleration and cornering, the width of the rear tires has been increased to 265 millimeters, providing a greater contact area with the ground.

The Pro version received special attention to the suspension, now equipped with a two-chamber pneumatic system and electronically adjustable shock absorbers, increasing comfort on different types of pavement and handling precision at high speeds.

Driver assistance technology

The Xiaomi reinforced the active safety and driver assistance package, making the LiDAR sensor and 4D millimeter wave radar standard across the entire SU7 line. Essa decision democratizes access to cutting-edge technologies, which are essential for semi-autonomous driving systems.

These advanced sensors power the Xiaomi HAD (Highway Autonomous Driving) system, which is processed by a chip with a computational capacity of 700 TOPS. The set allows high-level automated piloting functions on highways and in specific urban scenarios, with algorithms refined from data collected from the fleet of vehicles already in circulation.

Focus on structural safety

Passive safety has been improved with the extensive use of 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel in the body structure. Esse material forms an integrated survival cell that protects occupants in the event of a collision.

The number of airbags has also been increased to nine, including new side bags for rear seat passengers, ensuring more comprehensive protection in different types of impacts.

Interior and user experience

In response to customer requests, Xiaomi chose to maintain physical buttons for essential functions on the multimedia center, such as climate control and volume, making it easier to use while driving.

The dashboard continues to be dominated by high-resolution screens and an impressive 56-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), which projects important information directly onto the windshield.

The interior finish uses high-quality materials on the most frequent contact surfaces, conveying a feeling of sophistication and durability.

The ergonomics of the controls have been revised to ensure that all controls are within the driver’s quick and intuitive reach, improving the overall onboard experience.

Market strategy and pricing

With pre-sales already open exclusively at China and the first deliveries scheduled for after the official launch in April, the updated SU7 arrives to intensify competition in the local electric market. Seu competitive price, combined with the advanced technological package, positions it as a strong rival to established models and other new products in the sector.
