The Sorocaba factory, in the interior of São Paulo, is preparing to update its production line with one of the most anticipated renovations in the medium sports utility vehicle segment. The Japanese automaker has defined the guidelines for the next generation of its SUV, which will arrive at dealerships with profound changes in mechanics and design. The strategic focus is on advanced electrification, aiming to maintain the model’s competitiveness in the face of the growing supply of Chinese and European vehicles in the national and Latin American market.

Mechanical evolution and combined power

The highlight of the update planned for the 2027 line is the introduction of a new mechanical set for the model in the region. The plug-in hybrid system (PHEV) will replace the current configurations, delivering a combined power of 223 horsepower. Este significant increase in strength not only serves to improve acceleration figures, but to provide safer driving on highways and overtaking, meeting a long-standing demand from owners for more agility.

The brand’s engineering worked on the integration between the high-efficiency combustion engine and more robust electric motors. The result is a refined balance between performance and consumption, allowing the vehicle to operate vigorously without sacrificing fuel economy. The new transmission calibration also promises to smooth torque delivery, making driving more linear and quieter in intense urban traffic situations.

Electric autonomy and ease of recharging

One of the technical differences of the new project is the ability to run in 100% electric mode for considerable distances. The larger capacity battery allows for a range of up to 70 kilometers without activating the combustion engine, covering the majority of daily trips for those who live in large cities. Essa feature transforms the car’s usage profile, bringing it closer to the experience of a purely electric car during the week.

To ensure practicality, the charging system was optimized for domestic infrastructure. Utilizando conventional 220V sockets, it is possible to recover 80% of the battery charge in around two and a half hours. Essa solution reduces dependence on high-voltage public charging stations and facilitates the routine of users, who can replenish the vehicle’s energy while it is parked in the garage at home or in the office.

Updated design and digital interior

Aesthetically, the SUV adopts the “hammerhead” visual identity, aligning itself with the brand’s most recent global launches. The front features a new front grille integrated into the body and LED headlights with a redesigned light signature, giving it a more modern and aggressive appearance. The external changes seek to rejuvenate the model and create a clear differentiation in relation to the previous version, conveying a feeling of greater sophistication and technology.

In the cabin, the revolution is digital and focused on connectivity. The instrument panel becomes fully digital, with a configurable 12.3-inch screen, allowing the driver to prioritize navigation or energy efficiency information. In the center, the 10-inch multimedia offers wireless connection for smartphones, eliminating the need for cables and keeping the console cleaner and more organized. The interior finish also received soft-touch materials and new ambient lighting.

Exclusive adjustments for the GR-Sport version

The variant with a sporty appeal in the range will receive a different technical treatment by the Gazoo Racing division. Diferente of just aesthetic updates, the model will feature a recalibrated suspension, including new springs and shock absorbers, in addition to a 10 millimeter reduction in height in relation to the ground. The chassis received structural reinforcements to increase torsional rigidity, ensuring a more direct steering response and greater stability in high-speed curves.

Visually, the sports version stands out for its exclusive bumpers and 18-inch wheels with its own design. The interior follows the proposal with seats that offer greater lateral support, contrasting stitching and the sports division emblem on the headrests. Essa configuration aims to serve consumers who seek not only the efficiency of the hybrid system, but also more engaging driving dynamics and a look with a strong personality.

Impact on national industry

Confirmation of these updates reinforces the strategic role of the Brazilian plant as an export hub for América Latina. The investment required to nationalize the plug-in system and modernize the assembly line moves the entire local supply chain. With this, the manufacturer ensures the longevity of the product on the market and prepares to face the tightening of emissions standards and fierce competition in the electrified vehicle segment.
