The North American technology giant has implemented a new aggressive discount policy for its high-end models in Chinese territory. The initiative aims to stop the advance of local competitors and stimulate sales volume in one of the most competitive economic scenarios in the premium smartphone sector, ensuring that the brand maintains its relevance among high-income consumers.
Price adjustments and responding to competition
Chinese consumers now find the iPhone 17 Pro with a starting price adjusted to 8,699 yuan, while the Pro Max version starts at 9,699 yuan. The reduction, which can reach 300 yuan (approximately 42 dollars), is part of a strategic campaign valid until mid-December, coinciding with periods of high demand in local retail.
The movement is interpreted by analysts as a direct response to the pressure exerted by national manufacturers, such as Huawei, which have recovered market share with advanced devices. Apple seeks, with this tactic, not only to maintain its user base, but also to attract new buyers who prioritize the relationship between cost and benefit in cutting-edge devices.
E-commerce platforms, such as JD.com, quickly adopted the new table, offering additional subsidies to encourage the exchange of old devices. The more flexible pricing strategy demonstrates the company’s willingness to adapt its profit margins to sustain sales volume in regions critical to its global balance sheet.
Advances in hardware and market performance
Recent market data indicates that the reception of the 17 line has been positive, with the Pro model recording a 58% increase in cumulative sales compared to the same period in the previous cycle. The Pro Max model also showed robust growth, with an increase of 56%, consolidating users’ preference for larger screens and superior photographic capabilities.
Commercial performance is driven by the technical specifications of the new A19 Pro processor, which integrates six CPU and GPU cores to optimize complex tasks and high-performance games. The cooling system has been redesigned to withstand intense use without compromising energy efficiency, a critical point for professional users.
In terms of imaging, the 48 MP main camera received improved sensors that capture more details in low-light environments. The introduction of ultra-wide-angle lenses capable of recording in 120 degrees and support for 8K videos reinforce the device’s appeal for content creators looking for cinematic quality on a mobile device.
Production capacity and long-term vision
To sustain projected demand, the supply chain was adjusted with the expectation of expanding production capacity by 2026. The focus remains on integration between hardware and software, with the operating system using artificial intelligence for automatic image corrections and advanced editing tools.
In addition to the current models, rumors about the launch of an “Air” version of the iPhone 17 suggest that the company continues to explore new formats to diversify its portfolio. Regulatory approval and subsequent availability in the Chinese market are awaited as the next steps to complete the family of devices for this generation.
