The CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, addressed the topic that divides the industry at the iicon conference: what will be the price of Grand Theft Auto 6. Although Embora refused to reveal the exact value, it made it clear that it will not be a launch with a “super premium” price, as some speculated. The company believes that the value should accurately reflect what the player receives in return.

“Consumers pay for the value delivered, and our job is to charge much, much, much less for that value,” said Zelnick. Segundo he, the ideal price is one where the customer feels that the product is incredible and the price charged was fair. The feeling of satisfaction, for the executive, depends on the intersection between the quality of the game and the price charged.

Inflação does not justify price increase

Zelnick argued that game prices have actually gotten cheaper over the years when adjusted for inflation. Major releases have remained between $60 and $70 for more than a decade, while the broader economy has faced much higher inflation rates. Essa’s perspective, for the CEO, completely changes the analysis of production cost versus final price.

“If you look at it from that perspective, it doesn’t make much sense. But that’s not how we see the market,” he declared. Take-Two’s priority is to deliver an extraordinary experience, ensuring consumers feel they receive their full value. The focus remains on content innovation, not aggressive pricing strategies.

Grand Theft Auto 6 as “spectacle”

The executive confessed to being “terrified” by the question of how to measure the success of GTA 6. But, while the market discusses numbers and records, he and his teams focus on creating what he called the “most spectacular piece of entertainment in history”. It’s a daunting challenge, he acknowledged, but also inevitable for a project of this magnitude.

“What we have in mind is to create the most impressive entertainment spectacle in history, and that is a very daunting challenge. If we can achieve this, and if we provide good service to our customers, the benefits will come naturally,” said Zelnick. The challenge metaphor reflects the pressure that surrounds a launch of this scale. The game arrives on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

LA Noire could get a sequel

In a relaxed moment, Zelnick joked that he thinks “a lot of people will call in sick on November 19th” when GTA 6 is released. But attention has also turned to the future of other franchises. Quando asked about LA Noire, the CEO signaled openness to new projects involving Take-Two’s legacy intellectual properties.

“In general, we are considering doing something in the future with all of our intellectual property,” he revealed. Ressaltou, however, that there is no specific announcement regarding LA Noire at this time and that any communication would come from Rockstar Games, not him. The industry closely monitors these statements:

  • Franquias legacies under constant analysis by teams
  • Decisão depends on there being a passionate team dedicated to the project
  • Rockstar Games would be responsible for any future announcements
  • Current Foco focuses on GTA 6 launch
  • Outros titles like L.A. Noire still have exploration potential

Take-Two has a historic portfolio of franchises, and the opening of Zelnick suggests that the company does not rule out revisiting classic IPs when conditions are right. For now, all attention is on the historic launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 and how the market will react to both the game and its pricing strategy. The iicon conference brought together industry executives to discuss trends, and Zelnick’s participation reinforced that Take-Two remains confident in its vision of value versus price.
