Guibing Zhang, president of Chery Group International, confirmed that the Omoda 2 will reach the Brasil in 2028. The model will be launched globally at the end of 2027, but its arrival on the Brazilian market will take place a few months later. The decision to postpone local sales is due to the need to adapt the vehicle to run on flex technology, a mandatory fuel in the country.

Entry Estratégia with accessible models

The Omoda 2 is part of a larger Chery Group strategy to conquer the entry-level segment of the Brazilian automotive market. Enquanto or Omoda 4 targets consumers looking for rivals to the more expensive versions of the Tera, and the Jaecoo 5 directly faces the Volkswagen T-Cross, the new smaller model is positioned as a more affordable alternative. Poucos technical details have been revealed so far, as the prototype remains under strict secrecy outside of China.

Confirmed points about Omoda 2 include:

  • Global Revelação scheduled for late 2027
  • Lançamento on Brasil estimated for 2028
  • Versão flex confirmed for the national market
  • Estratégia pricing focused on the entry segment
  • Sigilo maintained around technical specifications and power

Motorização still shrouded in uncertainty

The issue of the Omoda 2’s engine remains open. The Chery Group operates with a component availability model where any technology present in a vehicle can be adapted to other models in the portfolio. The Jaecoo 5, for example, comes with the Brasil as a full hybrid, but offers versions with only a combustion engine in other global markets.

Na China, the brand offers smaller three-cylinder turbo engines, but the Brazilian operation has prioritized 1.5 turbo engines in its recent launches. The possibility of an Omoda 2 completely without electrification seems unlikely, considering that the brand has built its reputation in the country by offering vehicles with a high level of onboard technology. But official confirmation on which thrusters will arrive remains pending.

Concessionários Brazilians have already seen a prototype in secret

Grupos from Brazilian dealers were invited by Omoda & Jaecoo to learn about the new features of the Chery Group, and some of them had early access to the Omoda 2 prototype under strict secrecy. The general impression among these retailers was so positive that it displaced the previous interest in the QQ3, a Chinese compact electric hatch model that costs from 58,900 yuan (approximately R$50,000) in its basic version at China.

The QQ3, now an independent brand within the Chery portfolio, would be a direct rival to the BYD Dolphin and Geely EX2 in Asian markets. Porém, the experience with the Omoda 2 has changed the priorities of Brazilian sellers, who are now showing greater enthusiasm for the arrival of the smaller and more affordable model in the Omoda & Jaecoo line.

Omoda & Jaecoo reinforces presence in the compact segment

The Omoda & Jaecoo brand was created exclusively to operate outside of China, representing a global expansion strategy for Chery Group in strategic markets. The brand’s Brasil portfolio includes the Omoda 4, which already competes in the medium SUV segment, and the Jaecoo 5, scheduled to arrive in July with an advanced hybrid engine.

With the Omoda 2, the company fills an important gap in the entry-level segment, offering a more compact and affordable vehicle. Essa portfolio structure follows the logic of other Chinese manufacturers that have expanded their presence in the country, such as BYD and GAC Aion, which work with models in different price ranges and positioning.
