Nintendo surprised the video game market by announcing, on Wednesday, the arrival of a remake of Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th. The game reinterprets the classic Star Fox 64 from Nintendo 64, but with completely redesigned graphics that take advantage of the power of the new console. The images released show one of the most impressive visual demonstrations of Switch 2 to date, with aerial battle scenes and ocean scenes in very high quality.

Volta of the classic with a modernized look

The appearance of Fox McCloud in Super Mario Galaxy already indicated that something related to the Star Fox franchise was in development at Nintendo. The official announcement confirmed that the remake maintains the essence of the 1999 original, but significantly increases the visual quality. The reveal video features Fox’s ship flying over oceans and dynamic environments with graphic details that set new standards for the hybrid console catalog.

The player takes control of Fox McCloud in aerial combat missions. The gameplay structure follows the proposal of Star Fox 64, focusing on fast-paced action and navigation through pre-defined scenarios. Diferente from a cosmetic-only remake, the version for Switch 2 integrates modern elements:

  • Modos additional challenge
  • Batalhas online multiplayer
  • GameShare compatible with original Switch and Switch Lite
  • Controle aiming via Joy-Cons
  • Suporte for local matches between different consoles

Multiplayer and online mode expand the experience

The remake isn’t limited to the original’s single-player campaign. New online battle modes allow for real-time confrontations with players from different regions. GameShare support provides flexibility for local multiplayer sessions while maintaining compatibility with previous Switch models, which expands the scope of the competitive experience. The aim controlled by the Joy-Cons brings precision to combat sequences, replicating the mechanics that were successful in the N64 version.

Calendário from Nintendo releases

Embora price has not yet been announced by Nintendo, industry analysts indicate that the launch comes at a strategic time to consolidate the Switch 2 catalog. The game represents one of the first major remasters announced for the console and demonstrates the company’s commitment to offering high quality visual experiences. June 25th marks the beginning of what could be an intense period of releases for the new hardware.

The timing of the announcement, shortly after the initial launch of Switch 2, suggests that Nintendo is accelerating its schedule of headline titles. Star Fox is positioned as one of the main attractions of the first half of the year on the new console, filling the schedule between already confirmed releases. Usuários from the N64 emulated in Switch Online can now access the original version, but the remastered version promises a radically different experience in terms of visuals and additional content.
