The Renault finally brings the Koleos to the Brazilian market, a medium SUV with full hybrid technology that had been promised since 2017. The model arrives at dealerships starting at R$289,990 in the Esprit Alpine version, equipped with a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine, two electric motors and DHT automatic transmission. Apesar’s combined power of 245 horsepower surpasses direct rivals such as GAC GS4 and Omoda 5, real tests reveal that economic performance does not keep up with typical expectations of electrified vehicles.

Small Bateria limits electrical performance

The Koleos’s main limitation is its battery of just 1.64 kWh, insufficient to fully take advantage of hybrid technology. Embora to Renault claim that 75% of urban journeys can be completed exclusively in electric mode, practical tests indicate very different results. The 1.5 gasoline engine is activated at a constant frequency, even with Eco mode activated, significantly reducing system efficiency. A higher capacity battery would allow for longer electrical range and better use of available technology. Renault

The five driving modes offered — Comfort, Sport, Neve, IA and standard — provide flexibility to the driver, but do not compensate for the set’s poor electrical performance. The Sport mode increases the demand on the gasoline engine, while the AI mode promises to use artificial intelligence to adjust parameters, without clear explanations from the brand about its actual operation.

Real Consumo stays away from hybrid promises

Measurable consumption figures disappointed expectations. Durante street tests with air conditioning constantly on, the Koleos recorded 13.7 km/l in the city and 14.4 km/l on the highway. Diferentemente out of 99% of hybrids, which save more in the urban cycle, the Renault consumed less gasoline on the highway. With a 55-liter tank, the range approaches 800 kilometers, a satisfactory value only in comparison with traditional non-hybrid SUVs.

The promise of very low consumption, typical of advertising for electrified cars, did not materialize in practice. The price of almost R$100,000 above the GWM Haval H6 HEV, which offers only two fewer horsepower, further highlights this limitation. Mesmo costing significantly more, the savings that should compensate for the additional investment simply do not exist.

French Design and premium finish differentiate the model

The refined look accompanies the proposal of electrification and quality. The front grille mixes glossy black plastic with blue diamond-shaped details that refer to the Alpine division, as do the 20-inch sports wheels and interior finishes in the same tone. Lanternas interlocking and full-LED headlights with smart projectors enhance the overall elegance. Measuring 4.78 meters long and with a distinctive design, the Koleos makes up a package that is visually above average for SUVs of its size.

Acoustic insulation represents a rare point in hybrid vehicles or non-premium brands. Manta thick hood and dual front windows significantly reduce engine and tire noise at cruising speeds. Essa attention to sound comfort is unusual in the price range, demonstrating the care of French engineering in this specific aspect.

Equipamentos and premium-level technology

Koleos’s list of features is impressive in its scope and quality. Três 12.3-inch screens — instrument, multimedia center and passenger panel — come from the Monjaro, as does the steering wheel, which only received the central cushion customized with the Renault diamond. Sistema sound system with ten speakers and active noise cancellation, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity, three-zone air conditioning and a reclining rear seat complete the comfort package.

  • Três 12.3-inch screens with intuitive and responsive interface.
  • Sound Sistema Bose with ten speakers and active noise cancellation.
  • Ar-conditioning with three independent zones for maximum comfort.
  • Conectividade wireless with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
  • 29 safety features including adaptive cruise control and autonomous braking.

Suspension adjustments allow you to independently modify throttle, steering and power delivery via the gear lever. The result is a pleasant and predictable ride, with the suspension fulfilling its function of ensuring comfort. The electric steering has adequate firmness when driving in Sport mode.

Internal Espaço and strategic positioning

Apesar of the structure of an almost large medium SUV, with a wheelbase of 2.82 meters, the Koleos accommodates only five occupants, without a third row of seats. The 431-liter trunk is insufficient for the size of the vehicle — a volume close to that of an Hyundai Creta and almost 100 liters smaller than that of the Boreal. The model reaches 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h, respectable marks for a hybrid family car. Tração front and asphalt-adapted suspension eliminate any off-road pretensions.

Renault’s objective in bringing Koleos is to consolidate its sophisticated brand image and showcase productive capacity. Não competes as a plug-in, unlike some rivals, nor does it have a tradition in the segment like Volkswagen Tiguan. Funciona primarily as a showcase of technology and quality, demonstrating to the market that the brand can offer products with a premium finish, even if actual consumption falls short of the typical promises of electrified vehicles.
