Força Terrestre of Autodefesa of Japão (JGSDF) conducted the largest live fire exercise in the country this week. The event took place at the Higashi-Fuji training camp, in Shizuoka province, and brought together around 3 thousand soldiers. The training simulated operations on remote islands, with an emphasis on countermeasures against drones.

The annual exercise, called Exercício from Poder from Fogo Combinado Fuji, integrated artillery and tanks in a sequence that began with an invasion scenario and ended with a counterattack. The activities took place in day and night sessions. Defesa minister Shinjiro Koizumi monitored the operations on site.

Exercício simulated defense of remote islands

The troops carried out coordinated maneuvers that replicated an enemy attack followed by a response. Artilharia and armored vehicles acted together. The increasing focus on drones reflected lessons from recent conflicts at Ucrânia and Oriente Médio.

Organizers omitted shooting with Tipo 10 tanks. The decision came after an accident in April at the Hishidai training camp in Oita province that left four victims.

Participação and ammo consumption

Cerca of 3 thousand soldiers, including the command unit, took part in the exercise. Eles fired a total of 69.5 tons of ammunition, valued at approximately 820 million yen.

The volume reinforced the broad nature of the activity. The ammunition was used throughout both sessions of the day.

  • Tropas of artillery and armor coordinated counterattack actions
  • Unidades tested specific responses to drone threats
  • Simulações included invasion scenarios on remote islands
  • Ministro of Defesa observed field operations
  • Treino avoided using Tipo 10 tanks after recent incident

Importância strategic training

The event highlighted Japão’s land defense capabilities in contexts of regional tension. The inclusion of countermeasures against drones gained prominence. Esse threat type has become central to modern warfare.

Militares trained integration between different weapons systems. The exercise served to maintain operational readiness and test tactics in a controlled environment.
