Peugeot e-208 GTi is ready to hit stores. Exactly one year after the official presentation as a concept, the Peugeot e-208 GTi is revealed in a production version by Stellantis. The sports hatch is ready to hit the market and, for the first time in history, with an electric engine. The package delivers 280 hp of power and more than 35 kgfm of torque, making the compact more powerful and faster than its main competitors.

The numbers indicate acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and a maximum speed of 180 km/h with electronic limitation. As a comparison, the recently presented Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI develops 226 hp and 29.5 kgfm of torque, delivering acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 175 km/h. Only the Opel Corsa GSE, a direct derivative of the e-208, goes faster — it reaches 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

In practice, the e-208 GTi accelerates faster than all electric Mini Coopers currently available and, drawing the comparison to Brazil, easily surpasses the Volkswagen Nivus GTS (0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds) and the Fiat Pulse Abarth (7.6 seconds).

Peugeot e-208 GTi has exclusive preparation

The GTi acronym, it is worth remembering, is almost as traditional for Peugeot as it is for Volkswagen and, for the first time, it is being used on an electric vehicle. In the case of the e-208 GTi, the brand explains that it implemented modifications worthy of a track car and made the model its fastest GTi produced to date.

The list of changes includes a suspension lowered by 30 mm, widened tracks (56 mm at the front and 27 mm at the rear), springs and shock absorbers with specific hydraulic stops, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and ESP with exclusive Sport mode. The last item serves to suspend driver assistance systems to maximize performance in certain situations, such as on tracks.

Under the hood, the electric motor produces 280 hp of power, 35.1 kgfm of torque and sends all the power to the front wheels. The battery has a capacity of 54 kWh and guarantees a range of 350 km. Recharging from 20 to 80% takes less than 30 minutes, according to Peugeot. The brand also says that the cells have optimized energy management to match the car’s proposal and specific cooling system.

Design true to concept

The look is practically identical to the concept and, according to Peugeot, was inspired by the iconic 205 GTi 1.9. In this footprint, the highlight is the 18-inch wheels with a design and central logo that resemble the emblem installed on the C column of the classic model. Completing the package are red details on the wheel arches, external grille details, internal headlights and brake calipers.

Inside, the red tone continues in the ambient lighting, digital displays on the instrument panel, carpets and seat belts. The seats have a central red stripe that, again, recalls the design of the leather seats in the 205 1.9.

New generation of Peugeot 208 arrives in 2027

At the same time as it presents the e-208 GTi, Peugeot is already working on developing a new generation for the model. The inspiration will come from the Polygon concept, presented last year and based on the brand’s new visual identity. In the specific case of the new 208, the lines will have neo-retro elements inspired by the iconic 205 hatch. The launch is scheduled for the second half of 2027.
