The football market heats up in the middle of the year, and Flamengo is monitoring names that should be in the 2026 World Cup. Thiago Almada, from Atlético de Madrid, is once again circulating behind the scenes at the Rio club.
According to information obtained, Rubro-Negro made an inquiry for the midfielder. The athlete, however, does not show interest in playing in Brazilian football at the moment.
The 25-year-old player focuses his efforts on competing in the World Cup and prefers to wait for offers from European football. Flamengo keeps its radar open for the midfield, but fends off a more concrete attack on the Argentine after the position behind the scenes.
Few opportunities in Atlético de Madrid’s starting lineup
In recent days, Almada’s name has been linked to River Plate, from Argentina. Even so, the desire to continue in Europe makes the operation unlikely.
Signed by Atlético de Madrid in mid-2025, the Argentine played 40 games in his first season, scored four goals and provided two assists. The contract runs until June 2030.
Still at the beginning of 2026, Palmeiras also tried to sign number 11. Despite the reduced minutes in Spain, the midfielder did not agree to return to Brazil.
Does Flamengo need to sell to hire?
For the second half of the year, Rubro-Negro plans to reinforce the squad led by Leonardo Jardim. To balance the books, the board prioritizes the departure of athletes who are not in the technical plans.
The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo defines priorities in some positions for the next window, but still has no advanced conversations in the ball market.
