Instagram began releasing this Monday (8) the function that allows you to rearrange the order of photos and videos in the profile grid. The new feature eliminates the rigidity of the automatic chronological display and gives users more control over the appearance of the main page.

Until then, publications appeared strictly based on their posting date, which forced anyone who wanted to adjust their appearance to delete and republish content — a laborious process that led to a loss of engagement and old comments. Now, you can drag and drop posts directly into the grid.

How the reorder feature works

The tool is available on the mobile app (iOS and Android) and works simply. Tap and hold any post in your profile grid until the “Reorder grid” option appears. Then drag the posts to the desired positions. Changes are automatically saved and are visible to everyone who accesses the profile.

Pinned posts remain anchored at the top, without being affected by the reorganization. Meta indicates that the function is ideal for creators who want to highlight portfolios, products or specific moments, transforming the profile into a kind of more organized “digital showcase”.

What changes for creators and ordinary users

This update meets one of the community’s oldest demands. Photographers, brands and influencers gain flexibility to prioritize content that performs better or tells a more coherent visual story, without depending on temporal order. Ordinary users can also leave the feed with a cleaner or more themed aesthetic.

The change does not change the algorithm for recommending posts in other people’s feeds, just the profile grid view. The feature is still being released gradually, so it may not appear immediately for everyone — updating the app usually helps.

Step by step to rearrange your grid

  • Open Instagram and go to your profile.
  • Tap and hold any photo or video in the grid.
  • Select “Reorder Grid” from the menu that appears.
  • Drag the items to the new positions.
  • Tap finish to save.

The process is reversible at the same time, if the result is not satisfactory.

The release of the tool reinforces Instagram’s focus on giving users more creative control, especially at a time when the look of the profile increasingly influences decisions made by followers, customers and partnerships.
