Three days before the World Cup debut, coach Carlo Ancelotti began outlining the formation of the Brazilian team that should face Morocco on Saturday, at 7pm (Brasília time), at the MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey.
In training this Wednesday morning, the Italian commander alternated starters and reserves during much of the activity, but at times set up the defense with Danilo, Gabriel Magalhães, Marquinhos and Alex Sandro. The formation points to Flamengo’s full-backs as likely starters in the opening match of Group C.
The sides were the sectors with the greatest competition in the coaching staff. Ibañez and Douglas Santos were also competing for position, but Ancelotti gave clear signs of preference for the more experienced names.
Further ahead, the tendency is for the midfield to be formed by Casemiro and Bruno Guimarães. In attack, the team should count on Lucas Paquetá, Raphinha, Vini Jr and Matheus Cunha. During the activity, Luiz Henrique, Gabriel Martinelli and Endrick also received opportunities in the offensive sector.
There are still two training sessions left before Saturday’s clash. Ancelotti is expected to confirm the definitive team in the coming days. The likely lineup for the debut is: Alisson; Danilo, Gabriel Magalhães, Marquinhos and Alex Sandro; Casemiro and Bruno Guimarães; Lucas Paquetá, Raphinha, Vini Jr and Matheus Cunha.
Ancelotti’s birthday marked by hazing players
The training also had a relaxed atmosphere. The athletes performed a prank to celebrate the 67th birthday of the Italian coach, who completed another spring on the day of the activity.
Spike Lee’s illustrious visit
American filmmaker Spike Lee was present at the training center and followed part of the work. Lee, a resident of New York, was invited by the CBF and joked about his sympathy for the Brazilian team.
Brazil is part of Group C of the World Cup, alongside Morocco, Scotland and Haiti. The debut against the Africans opens the campaign in search of the sixth championship, which has eluded them since 2002.
