Fernando Alonso gave a harsh analysis of Aston Martin’s situation after the Monaco GP. Despite having won the team’s first point of the season, the Spaniard considered that the weekend in the Principality did not bring any technical gain and added to the previous stages by revealing yet another limitation of the car. For him, the accumulation of problems clearly exposes the challenges that the team needs to resolve in the second half of 2026.
Alonso secured Aston Martin’s first point with tenth place in Monte Carlo. However, the result came more from an alternative strategy and a series of penalties in the race, especially that of Sergio Pérez, who lost the last place in the top-10 to the Spaniard, than from any real advance by the British team.
Even coming from zero in the classification, the two-time world champion noticed little improvement in AMR26. According to the driver, each track covered so far has revealed a specific weakness in the car, and Monaco was no exception.
“There are absolutely no positives from this weekend. We have raced on very different circuits so far this year, and everyone has been clear to us in terms of understanding our weaknesses,” he said.
“In Australia, we discovered that we were far behind in terms of the engine. In China, we saw that we were behind in energy management. In Canada, we identified problems with the gearbox. In Monaco, we realized that the chassis was below expectations. In Miami, everything was very bad”, he listed.
Despite the critical tone, Alonso found a positive aspect in the accumulation of difficulties. The Spaniard highlighted that the distinct characteristics of the tracks allowed Aston Martin to put together a broad diagnosis of the AMR26’s limitations, offering a more precise view of the points that require attention to return to being competitive.
“Each circuit has exposed some of the weaknesses in the car, but the positive side is that it has given us a very good understanding and we know what to do in each of these areas for the second part of the year. The package we will try to introduce will seek to attack all these problems at once, rather than dealing with them individually,” he explained.
“I have complete faith and confidence in the team, because the impression and feeling is that the car will change drastically compared to what we are facing now. We just need to wait four or five more races”, he concluded.
