Coach Abel Ferreira now appears on a list of potential candidates to lead Fulham, a London team competing in the English Premier League. The Palmeiras board, however, is not concerned about British harassment at this time.
The English club is trying to find a new commander after Marco Silva left his position to take over Benfica, in Portugal. The Fulham board’s priority was Kieran McKenna, from Ipswich Town, but the professional chose to begin a period of rest in his career and refused the investment.
In addition to Abel Ferreira, the list of those monitored by Fulham includes his compatriot Ruben Amorim, who led Manchester United, Hugo Oliveira, currently at Famalicão, and Englishman Frank Lampard. Information about monitoring was initially published by reporter Ben Jacobs.
The Palmeiras leadership has not received any type of contact or official survey from intermediaries until now. The Portuguese commander remained in Brazilian territory during the first days of the squad’s vacation, and the return to work is scheduled for the 21st, with the Alviverde directors convinced of his stay.
History of proposals and contractual shielding
The Palmeiras professional has already had his name speculated on other teams on the British scene previously, such as Tottenham, Wolverhampton, Everton and West Ham.
The most concrete attempt to remove the coach from São Paulo came from Al-Sadd, a team from Qatar. The Asian team opened legal proceedings against the São Paulo club and the coach for alleged non-compliance with a pre-agreement, but the dispute ended amicably.
After this episode, both the technical committee and senior management at Palmeiras adopted a unified stance. The Portuguese has a contract signed until the end of the 2027 season and plans to honor his commitment, justifying that he prefers to work in long-term jobs.
“Until December 2027, which is when my term ends, I don’t know the next president, I guarantee Abel Ferreira as coach of Palmeiras. That is the president’s will”, declared Leila Pereira in a recent press conference.
The current agreement between the parties does not provide for the payment of a fine for unilateral breach, meaning that no foreign team will be able to snatch the professional only through mandatory financial compensation. The stay is strictly linked to the commander’s desire, who has not expressed any intention of abandoning the Barra Funda CT early.
The Palmeiras coach and players will return to training at night on June 21st to focus on the challenges of the final half of the year. The period reserves high demands, as the team deals with demands for important achievements after a previous season without the intended major trophies.
The team led by Abel Ferreira won the Campeonato Paulista trophy in the first half of the year, leads Serie A of the Brasileirão with a comfortable difference of seven points over second place and remains alive in the knockout stages of the Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores da América.
