Tyra Banks accuses Netflix of defamation in documentary after editing 3.5-hour interview
Former supermodel Tyra Banks has filed a lawsuit against US-based streaming giant Netflix. The reason for the legal dispute is a documentary that goes behind the scenes of the model selection program “America’s Next Top Model”.
News released this Thursday by American vehicles, based on court documents, indicate that the 52-year-old presenter is alleging defamation against the platform. Banks served as a producer, judge and also as the main figure of the reality show.
In additional reports based on the same records, it is detailed that Tyra Banks gave an extensive interview, lasting three and a half hours, for the production. However, only 16 minutes of this material were incorporated into the final cut of the work.
The model’s statements were allegedly “taken out of context and edited” with the purpose of “endorsing a defamatory and untrue narrative, which is completely different from what she actually expressed.” This practice is at the heart of the complaint filed by Banks.
The model claims that the team behind the documentary, titled “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model”, manipulated portions of her interview. The objective would be to insinuate that Banks authorized or tolerated a case of sexual abuse involving one of the participants in the reality show.
