Valve, creator of the Steam platform, has received a significant shipment of virtual reality hardware in the United States. On June 10, the German container ship Posen from Shanghai unloaded about 32 metric tons of cargo declared as “Virtual Reality Devices” at the Port of Los Angeles.

After discounting the weight of the five 40-foot containers, approximately 13 tons of headsets and accessories remain. Analysts identify the material as the first batch of mass production of theSteam Frame, the company’s new standalone VR headset.

Volume indicates readiness for retail distribution. Each Steam Frame set with two controllers weighs around 654 grams. The estimate points to less than 20 thousand units in this shipment, a typical initial volume for supply chain tests before the official launch.

Steam Machine Parallel Stock

At the same time, Valve accumulates an even greater volume of “Game Consoles”. Since the end of April, around 141 metric tons of this type of cargo have arrived. Each Steam Machine weighs around 2.6 kg per unit, which suggests tens of thousands of consoles already on American soil.

The company clearly differentiates the categories in customs declarations: “Game Consoles” for consoles and “Virtual Reality Devices” for headsets. This separation reinforces that these are two distinct products in an advanced stage of preparation.

Release confirmed for summer

The logistical movement gains even more weight because Valve publicly confirmed that both theSteam Machineas theSteam Framestart shipping “this summer” 2026. The Steam Machine is a mini-PC/console for the living room, with promised performance six times that of the Steam Deck. Steam Frame combines local ARM processing with broad compatibility via Proton and emulation layers.

Experts like Brad Lynch, who monitors imports via ImportYeti, highlight the timing: shipments of this size usually precede availability announcements by a few weeks. In the previous case of a Steam controller, the delay between stock arrival and release was around three to four weeks.

What changes for the consumer

These numbers show that Valve is putting together a complete ecosystem: TV console, standalone VR headset and integration with the Steam library. Unlike the first generation of Steam Machines, from 2015, the new model is manufactured directly by Valve, with optimized SteamOS and a focus on ease of use.

The move also comes amid industry challenges, such as shortages of memory and storage components, which have already led to schedule and price adjustments. Still, the company maintains its commitment to releases for 2026, with an emphasis on checking compatible games.
