The devastating consequences of methanol poisoning led to the death of a 22-year-old young man last Sunday, June 14th. Guilherme Torres, a resident of Itapecerica da Serra, in Greater São Paulo, succumbed to the consequences caused by drinking adulterated drinks.
Guilherme’s tragedy began in August of the previous year, when he consumed gin that was contaminated. Since the incident, the young man has faced multiple cardiac arrests and become completely blind, permanent marks of intoxication.
The official bulletin from the São Paulo State Health Department has not yet been updated to include this new death. However, data compiled up to Monday, June 15, showed a total of 54 incidents of methanol poisoning and 12 deaths recorded since August 2025 in the region.
The persistence of the serious consequences that impacted Guilherme Torres
Guilherme’s family established a profile on social media in December last year, turning it into a diary that detailed the young man’s treatment and evolution. It was in this space that they announced his death and expressed gratitude to everyone who attended his burial, which took place the following Monday.
In an emotional publication, the family declared: “Guilherme is gone and left a great story of strength and overcoming to date. He also left a beautiful son who will transmit his presence in our lives.”
At the time of publication of this article, the City of Itapecerica da Serra and the Civil Police had not responded in response to the report’s requests.
