Midfielder Quinten Timber will not be able to take the field for the Netherlands team this Saturday (20), at 2pm, in the important duel against Sweden. The match is valid for the second round of Group F and the player was removed after suffering a mild concussion, which prevented him from participating in the last training session.
The injury occurred during training on Thursday, when Timber collided with a teammate. The medical evaluation confirmed a mild concussion, resulting in his absence from Friday’s activities and, consequently, today’s game. In the competition’s debut against Japan, the athlete had entered during the second half.
The Dutch team carried out its exercises on Friday morning in Kansas City, in the state of Missouri. After the session, the delegation continued on to Houston, Texas, the stage for the clash against the Swedish team.
Quinten’s case evokes sad memories of his twin brother, Justin Timber, who also suffered a setback before the World Cup when he was cut with a groin injury. Justin, who plays for Arsenal in England, won the Premier League title with his club.
Currently, Quinten wears the Olympique de Marseille shirt. Since leaving Ajax, the brothers have followed separate professional paths, with few opportunities to play together again. The World Cup, in particular, represented for them the long-awaited chance to renew their partnership from the youth teams.
The brotherly duo had already faced joint disappointment at the previous World Cup. In 2022, while Jurrien Timber was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals in Qatar, Quinten was not called up, following the Netherlands’ journey only as a spectator.
Netherlands’ next challenges in the tournament
- Second round: Netherlands faces Sweden in Houston, on June 20th, at 2pm.
- Third round: Tunisia plays the Netherlands in Kansas City, on June 25th, at 8pm.
