Samsung has expanded development activities for One UI 9.0, which is based on Android 17, to include its previous high-end smartphones. Recent information, originating from leaks on the company’s servers, indicates that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series models are now part of internal tests for the new version of the system.
Details about this expansion came to light through promoter Fahad Ali Javed, who used X/Twitter to show the appearance of new One UI 9.0 test firmware on the South Korean company’s servers. For the Galaxy S24 series, two builds were identified, finalized with the codes EZF9 and EZF7. However, there is no confirmation whether the Galaxy S24 FE, a model that has a different technical alignment than the conventional S24, is part of this initial set of tests.
Regarding the previous generation, the Galaxy S23 line, only a test version was found, with the final code GZF9. As in the case of the S24 FE, it has not been announced whether the Galaxy S23 FE is included, due to its less direct connection with the main models of the S23 series.
The expectation is that the approach to making the update available will be different between the two generations of Samsung’s premium devices. Galaxy S24 users will likely have access to a beta program in the near future, while the Galaxy S23 series is expected to receive the stable version of One UI 9.0 directly without going through the public testing phase.
An important detail is that One UI 9 is expected to be the last major interface update for models launched in 2023. The promise of four major updates for these devices ends with the arrival of Android 17, differentiating them from the most recent flagships, such as the Galaxy S24 series, which offers seven years of support. There is a possibility that Galaxy S23 devices will not receive even future intermediate versions, such as an eventual One UI 9.5.
Faced with accelerated development and with few significant changes expected, One UI 9.0 has its official launch scheduled to coincide with the presentation of Samsung’s next generation of foldable cell phones. This lineup would include the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (in its widest format), and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. It is believed that this trio of devices will be revealed at an event scheduled for July 22, in the city of London, United Kingdom.
