A serious pileup on BR-262, in Betim, metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, involved 15 cars and resulted in the death of one person on Saturday morning (20). The Minas Gerais Fire Department confirmed that seven individuals suffered injuries.
Firefighter rescue teams were mobilized to help two victims who were trapped between the car’s wreckage. All the injured were taken to a hospital in the municipality of Betim for medical care.
The Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that the incident happened around 7 am, at kilometer 357 of the highway. The lane towards Belo Horizonte was completely blocked throughout the morning, causing extensive congestion in the area.
Traffic returned to normal on the highway at approximately 2pm, after vehicles were removed and the area was cleaned.
Images released on digital platforms reveal intense fog covering the region at the time of the collision. Heavy fog conditions are often cited as a significant risk factor on mountain roads, impacting drivers’ visibility and reaction time. Among the fifteen vehicles affected, there was a bus.

The Way262 concessionaire, responsible for managing the stretch of highway where the accident occurred, could not be reached to comment on the incident at the time of writing this report.
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais, through a statement, confirmed the activation of its forensic team to carry out standard procedures at the site.
