A new era for voice assistants begins in Brazil with the arrival of Amazon Alexa+ Plus. The platform, equipped with generative artificial intelligence, promises to transform user interaction by acting as a true personal assistant, capable of solving complex tasks and understanding nuances of human communication. Officially launched, the improved version of Alexa will be available for free to Amazon Prime subscribers.
Amazon positions Alexa+ Plus as a tool that goes beyond answering questions, offering real-world action capabilities. The expectation is that technology will simplify the daily lives of Brazilians, from organizing schedules to controlling the smart home, all through more natural and intuitive conversations. The new feature can now be tried out by customers starting today.
The evolution of voice assistants and the arrival of Alexa+
Since its introduction in Brazil in October 2019, Alexa has established itself as a fundamental piece in millions of homes. Amazon’s voice assistant has changed family dynamics, making everyday activities like playing music, managing reminders and automating smart devices easier. In the last three years alone, Brazilians have interacted with Alexa more than 60 billion times, demonstrating the deep integration of technology into their routine.
This popularity paved the way for the launch of a new generation. The new version, called Alexa+ Plus, represents a significant leap in terms of intelligence and functionality. It was designed to be more than a chatbot, becoming a proactive ally that anticipates needs and performs end-to-end tasks, freeing users to focus on other activities.
More fluid and expressive conversations with AI
One of Alexa+ Plus’ most notable innovations is the depth of its conversational capabilities. The interaction now resembles a dialogue with another person more than with a machine. The assistant is able to understand intentions, even if speech is fragmented or contains accents, slang and regional expressions. It incorporates typically Brazilian terms and forms of expression, such as “beauty” or “can leave”, making the experience more authentic.
The technology allows users to start a topic and develop it freely, without the need to repeat the “Alexa” command with each new sentence. It is possible to change the topic, ask additional questions or revisit previous points, as the system maintains the context of the conversation. In addition, Alexa+ Plus was introduced with a new, more natural and expressive voice, although users can still opt for the original female and male voices, already known and appreciated.
Alexa+ Plus goes beyond responding, it acts for you
The main differentiation of Amazon’s new assistant lies in its ability to act in the real world. Instead of just providing information, Alexa+ Plus performs tasks from start to finish. This includes actions such as choosing songs that match the user’s mood and playing them immediately, or helping with the purchase of gifts, monitoring promotions and notifying about delivery.
The assistant also integrates with the smart home ecosystem in an improved way. If a user says “it’s too hot in here”, the system can turn on the air conditioning automatically. She can also organize events, such as birthday parties, and even write and send invitations via email, demonstrating a level of proactivity that redefines the concept of personal assistance. Compatibility with various streaming services and devices from popular brands in Brazil further expands its functionalities.
The cultural relevance of the assistant to Brazil
Amazon dedicated significant efforts to ensure that Alexa+ Plus was not just a translation, but a deep cultural adaptation to the Brazilian context. This means that the assistant understands the country’s linguistic diversity, from the Gaucho to the Northeast accent, and the meaning of expressions such as “saudade” or “trem” in different contexts. It recognizes regional particularities, such as açaí in Pará versus São Paulo, chimarrão from Rio Grande do Sul or the cheese bread from Minas Gerais.
This construction for the “Brazilian home” goes beyond language. Alexa+ Plus is aware of cultural icons such as Caetano Veloso and Marília Mendonça, the importance of samba schools and the national passion for football. She understands that Carnival has different sounds in each city and recognizes local rivalries such as Garantido and Caprichoso in Parintins. This cultural immersion is essential for the assistant to truly feel part of the family and offer a richer and more personal experience.
Personalization and ambient intelligence for everyday life
Alexa+ Plus is designed to become more useful as the user interacts, learning preferences and routines. The assistant adjusts its tone of voice and responses based on detected emotions or recent events, such as a team’s victory. With Visual ID and Voice ID technology, it can recognize different family members, adapting its responses and recommendations to each person. This creates a truly “your Alexa” experience.
The technology also incorporates the concept of “ambient intelligence.” This means that Alexa+ Plus is able to anticipate the user’s needs, acting proactively without the need for a direct command. She can adjust the temperature of the house before arrival, turn on the coffee maker when she wakes up or activate the robot vacuum cleaner when the house is empty. This ability to act at the right time and in the appropriate context, without demanding constant attention, allows technology to integrate silently and effectively into daily life.
Expanded accessibility and continuity across devices
To ensure maximum usefulness, Alexa+ Plus was designed to accompany the user in any environment. The assistant is accessible through Echo Show devices in the kitchen, Fire TV in the living room, or the Alexa app on your cell phone when you are away from home. In the coming months, access capacity will expand to computers, directly through the browser, providing even more flexibility.
The great advantage of this ubiquity is the fluid continuity of conversations. A user can start a recipe search on the Echo Show in the kitchen, continue on the cell phone on the way to the supermarket, and Alexa+ Plus will resume the dialogue exactly where it was interrupted, maintaining the context. This ability to not “lose the thread” across different devices is a significant differentiator for the user experience.
New features for shopping and smart home control
Shopping capabilities with Alexa+ Plus have been improved to be more intuitive. If an item such as paper towels runs out, simply inform the assistant, who will suggest the preferred brand at the best price before confirming the order. It can also create shopping lists considering food preferences, monitor deliveries, alert about price drops in wish lists and suggest products aligned with the user’s interests. It’s like having a purchasing consultant always at your disposal.
Smart home control has also become more natural. Users no longer need to remember the exact name of each device. Just say “it’s dark” for Alexa to turn on the lights in the room the user is in, or “it’s hot in here” for her to turn on the fan or air conditioning. The creation of personalized “Routines” can be done entirely by voice, combining multiple actions without the need to open the application. Additionally, music can “move” around the house, following the user from one room to another without interruption.
The technology behind Alexa+ Plus and commitment to privacy
The Alexa+ Plus architecture is completely new, connecting diverse artificial intelligence models to hundreds of services and devices. This approach means that each request is directed to the AI model best suited to the task at hand, whether simple, like turning off lights, or complex, like planning a trip. The Amazon Nova models are the basis of these interactions, ensuring a smarter, culturally relevant and authentically Brazilian assistant.
Amazon also prioritized privacy and security in developing Alexa+ Plus. Users have access to a complete privacy dashboard where they can review and manage all of their interactions with the assistant. You can listen to what Alexa heard, review shared attachments, and configure how long voice recordings are stored. This transparency and control aims to protect the privacy of user data.
Access and plans for Prime members and new devices
Alexa+ Plus is available for free during an Early Access period, allowing customers to provide feedback and contribute to improving the experience. After this initial phase, the assistant will remain free for all Amazon Prime members. This benefit is in addition to existing advantages, such as free and fast shipping, exclusive offers, Prime Video and Amazon Music Prime, all for R$19.90 per month or R$166.80 per year.
Customers who are not Prime members will have the option to subscribe to Alexa+ Plus for R$99.90 per month, with an additional benefit of 2TB of photo and video storage in Amazon Photos. For those looking for immediate access, Amazon launched new devices in the Echo and Fire TV line, such as the Echo Show 8, Echo Show 11, Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio, all designed to optimize the experience with the new assistant. Early Access has already begun in Brazil, with invitations being extended to thousands of customers in the coming weeks.
