Ariana Madix spoke out publicly after Love Island USA viewers raised suspicions that the show’s voting process had been tampered with. The controversy arose after the elimination of a popular couple, sparking intense debates on social media.
The 40-year-old presenter made a comment on her Instagram account, where she addressed the repercussions of Caleb McDaniel and Sol Dean’s departure. They were not announced among the top couples during the Thursday, June 18, episode of season eight, despite a significant online outpouring in support of the two.
In response to a message criticizing the show for “ruining” the competition, Ariana wrote: “Unfortunately, they didn’t make the final 4.” She also demonstrated agreement with another comment that emphasized that, for legal reasons, the production of the reality show cannot manipulate the results, despite all the speculation that was circulating.
Viewers’ frustration grew when Sol and Gabriel Vasconcelos were eliminated from the house after a vote carried out by the participants themselves. This event occurred after the American public chose their favorite couples, and the three least voted couples were put at risk, with the women deciding which man would go out and vice versa.
Understand how the voting process works on Love Island USA and recurring failures
It’s not the first time that Ariana Madix has needed to intervene to deny rumors related to the Love Island USA vote.
She doubled down on her stance at the time, stating: “I’m not a conspiracy theorist, so I’m the one who debunks conspiracy theories.”
At that moment, Ariana also denied the idea that participants entered the house with pre-defined strategies to win the competition.
“No matter how much someone tries to turn the show into a game while they are inside as a participant, that is not possible 24 hours a day,” she added. “It’s practically impossible to keep this mask on all the time.”
Ariana Madix called on viewers to actively participate in voting, using their power to influence the outcome. She explained that if the American public has a preference for certain participants, they have the right to express themselves. So, if someone tries to turn the competition into a game and finds themselves among the least voted, it is because the strategy may not have worked.
Eighth season faces technical problems and extension of voting time
Love Island USA’s eighth season had previously faced difficulties with its voting system. Earlier this month, several users reported technical issues and “network error” messages when trying to access the Love Island app on their phones to register their votes.
The initial post on the show’s official Instagram account had called out: “Vote tonight to choose which show contestants the new Bombshells Sol, Jen and Caleb should pair up with!” The instructions detailed that voting began at 10:30 pm ET/7:30 pm PT and ended at 1 am ET/10 pm PT, valid only in the US.
Following the close of voting and reports of glitches, Love Island USA released an update on Instagram to address the issue. The message stated: “For those who are having trouble registering to vote, we apologize for the inconvenience. Our team is actively working to resolve this. Stay tuned for updates.”
Love Island USA app crashed during initial voting
A new statement was issued after the application continued to experience instabilities during the voting process. The situation led the production to take emergency measures to ensure public participation.
“Your overwhelming enthusiasm for America’s first vote has caused the app to crash. But don’t worry, we are extending the voting period until 3pm ET / 12pm PT on Wednesday, June 10th!” the new post read, seeking to calm viewers’ tempers.
New episodes of Love Island USA air six days a week, except Wednesdays, and are available on the Peacock platform.
