Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be planning an emotionally significant trip to the United Kingdom. As reported by the international press, the couple, accompanied by their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are expected to visit the country in July, marking the first time that the entire family returns to British territory since 2022.
Harry’s schedule includes commitments linked to the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will take place in Birmingham from July 10 to 17 next year. This potential trip reignited discussions about the family’s possible place to stay during their stay.
Possibility to stay at historic Althorp House
One of the places that has been generating interest is Althorp House, the ancestral property of the Spencer family, located in West Northamptonshire. This residence, which was Princess Diana’s childhood home, will be closed to the public on July 10th and 11th, a coincidence that has led royal experts to speculate about a visit, or even a stay, by Harry, Meghan and their children.
The place carries profound importance for the Duke of Sussex. In addition to being the home where Diana spent much of her youth, Althorp is the princess’s burial place, on a private island within the farm’s ornamental lake. As the trip would likely take place just days after Diana’s birthday, celebrated on July 1, the emotional symbolism of the visit would be immense for the family.
On previous occasions, Prince Harry has stayed at the residence of his uncle, Earl Charles Spencer, during visits to the United Kingdom. One of these stays took place in August 2024, when he was in the country for the funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes.
At the same time, information emerged indicating that King Charles III had offered his son accommodation on a Crown property, should the trip take place. However, to date, there has been no confirmation regarding the acceptance or refusal of the invitation.
It would not be the first time that the monarch has offered accommodation to the couple. In past visits, Harry has received offers to stay in royal residences, including Buckingham Palace, but opted for other solutions.
Security challenges on British soil
The issue of security continues to be one of the biggest obstacles for the Sussex family to make more frequent visits to the United Kingdom. Since officially stepping down from their roles as working royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan have lost their right to British state-funded police protection. The prince has been waging a persistent legal battle to try to reverse that decision, citing concerns for the safety of his wife and children.
During a hearing held in London, Harry clearly expressed his position on the matter. He said the United Kingdom is his home and fundamental to his children’s cultural heritage, a place where he wants them to feel at home, just as they do in the United States. The prince emphasized that this cannot happen without ensuring security on British soil.
He complemented his statements, reinforcing that he cannot put his wife in danger in this way and, due to his own life experiences, he also hesitates to expose himself to unnecessary risks. The absence of state protection for the family directly impacts their ability to experience the country as a safe home, a central point in Harry’s dispute.
Family rapprochement and the past
Although there is no confirmation of a meeting between Harry and King Charles during the possible trip, the atmosphere between father and son seems less tense than in previous years. In September 2025, the two had a private conversation lasting approximately 55 minutes in London, marking their first in-person reunion in 19 months.
Recently, Harry has also publicly expressed his desire to rebuild family ties. He declared that there is no point in continuing to fight, as life is precious, and that he doesn’t know how much time his father has left.
The Duke completed his reflection by expressing that his father does not talk to him due to these security issues, but that it would be positive if they could reconcile.
The last time Harry and Meghan were in the UK with Archie and Lilibet was in June 2022, during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Since that time, the couple’s children have not returned to the country.
In his memoir, titled “Spare”, Harry also revisited his and Meghan’s first visit to their mother’s grave in Althorp, a moment he described as deeply moving.
When narrating the experience, he said that no visit to that place was easy, but that one was special, the twenty-fifth anniversary of his mother’s death and Meghan’s first time. The prince felt like he was finally bringing the woman of his dreams to meet his mother.
He described the moment they hesitated and hugged, and then he stepped forward. He placed flowers on the grave and spoke to his mother in thought, saying he missed her and asking for her guidance and clarity.
Later, as he watched Meghan in front of the memorial, he asked her what she had prayed for. “Clarity,” she replied, “and guidance.”
If the trip is confirmed, the return of Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet to the United Kingdom could represent not only a family visit, but also a period full of symbolism, memories and possible new rapprochements within the British royal family.
