Rockstar Games has announced that the retail version of Grand Theft Auto VI will not include a traditional disc. Consumers who purchase the physical edition of the game will find a digital code in the box, which will allow them to redeem the game. Access to the game will be released after the official launch, scheduled for November 19th.
In addition to the particularity of the code, the availability strategy foresees that copies in the “physical media” format reach stores in advance. Distribution to retailers and start of sales to fans are scheduled for November 12th, a week before the global debut of GTA 6, ensuring that players can begin their adventure in Vice City as soon as the title is officially released.
Still with the same deadline, from November 12th, players will have the possibility to pre-load GTA 6. This feature is essential to avoid potential inconveniences on the 19th, such as internet slowdowns or server problems, which could delay the start of the game.
Although this approach is unusual for console games, the format chosen by Rockstar Games is primarily intended to prevent leaks of game content. Historically, the early distribution of physical disc copies has been a factor that allows some titles to be played and their details exposed before the official release date, something the company seeks to avoid.

The plot of Grand Theft Auto VI unfolds in a vast open world scenario, based on the state of Florida, in the United States. The main city is Vice City, a fictional representation of Miami, which already made its appearance in the first GTA and had its own highly successful game, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, released in 2002. The narrative centers on two protagonists, Lucia and Jason, figures who were presented in the game’s launch trailer, and the gameplay allows you to switch between their stories.
