Apple announces the arrival of an innovative “Siri” mode to the iPhone Camera app with the launch of iOS 27. This new feature integrates with already known options, such as Photo, Video and Portrait, promising to significantly expand users’ visual interaction capabilities. The functionality offers a new dimension of intelligence directly in image capture.
The camera app in iOS 27 has been improved to include Siri mode, which incorporates a set of features focused on visual intelligence. This advancement aims to transform the way the user interacts with the environment through the camera.
The technology giant had already redesigned the iPhone Camera app interface the previous year. Now, with the iOS 27 update, the company continues this path of innovation by introducing this new and dedicated capture mode.
In addition to the usual photography and video formats, users will now find the “Siri” option available within the Camera app itself, making access to artificial intelligence more organic and faster.
How Siri’s visual intelligence works in the Camera app
Siri mode repositions visual intelligence capabilities that previously operated in a more restricted manner, linked to a camera control button. These features are now fully incorporated into the app, making them an integral part of the photography experience. This transition represents an advance in usability, as the resource is no longer isolated, but rather contextualized in the camera environment.
By activating Siri mode, the iPhone camera is able to go beyond simply capturing, allowing the device to provide information and perform various actions based on what is being framed. The idea is to transform the camera into a proactive recognition tool.
For example, pointing your iPhone at a restaurant can automatically open its page in the Maps app, displaying data such as reviews, opening hours and other relevant information, making it easier to access useful details in real time.
Users will also be able to perform a number of other interactions with the new mode, which include:
- Get details about plants, such as specific watering and care needs.
- Register an event from an image to add it directly to the calendar.
- Consult nutritional information for foods directly from the plate.
- Perform text translations in real time.
- Split bills by scanning receipts efficiently.
- Do image searches to find photos related to what is being viewed.
- And many other features that expand interaction with the environment.
Previously, this range of visual intelligence features existed separately, operating completely outside the main context of the Camera app, which often required additional steps to access.
With implementation in iOS 27, Siri’s advanced intelligence is now available with a single tap, directly integrated into the iPhone’s default Camera app, promising a more fluid and intuitive experience.
Apple invites users to share their experiences with the new tool, indicating an interest in continuous feedback to improve the system.
