Re-release of Avengers: Endgame brings new scenes and Infinity Vision format to connect with ‘Apocalypse’
The film production “Avengers: Endgame” achieved a memorable impact in theaters upon its release, which took place in 2019. With a global box office of almost 2.8 billion dollars, the work established itself as one of the biggest commercial successes in history. More than seven years after its initial release, Disney and Marvel Studios are preparing the return of the grand finale of the Infinity Saga to theaters, now presenting a version with an entirely renewed approach.
Initially revealed at the end of 2025 and formally confirmed at CinemaCon 2026, this new release was already fueling enormous expectations. The anticipation was due to the promise of extra material that would directly link to the subsequent chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe narrative. This disclosure indicated that the initiative went beyond a simple appeal to nostalgia, becoming a movement with authentic narrative implications and becoming one of Marvel’s most anticipated events in a long time.
Recent information indicates that Disney plans to officially rename the re-release to “Avengers: Endgame Encore”. This change aligns with the film’s new perspective, which will incorporate an opening customized for Disney’s innovative Infinity Vision format. In addition, the title will feature additional scenes and a unique post-credits sequence, exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX projections. This announcement was made during CineEurope, in Barcelona, where the company officially introduced Infinity Vision to its exhibition collaborators. To obtain certification, a display of at least 13.7 meters wide is required, an immersive audio system similar to Dolby Atmos or 7.1 and a brightness of 14 footlamberts in 2D displays.
In addition to the superior presentation quality, what really instigates the re-release of “Encore” is the director’s creative vision behind the new inserts. During his speech at the Sands Film Festival, director Joe Russo emphasized the relevance of this new release. He assured that the enhanced edition of “Endgame” works as a “crucial complementary story”, which sets the stage for the fifth feature film in the Avengers franchise, and confirmed that sections set in the “Apocalypse” narrative were integrated directly into “Avengers: Endgame”. He also described the experience as a chance to “establish a connection between Endgame and Apocalypse in a truly original way”.
The arrival of the Infinity Vision format takes on even greater strategic urgency, especially considering that IMAX has secured screening privileges for “Dune: Part 3,” scheduled to open on the same day as “Apocalypse” in December. This direct dispute leaves Marvel’s most significant production of the year without the traditional support of the IMAX brand, positioning Infinity Vision as a vital alternative and pillar for Disney’s release strategy. More than 7,500 cinemas have already shown interest by requesting Infinity Vision certification for their September premiere, indicating a growing acceptance and expansion of this new standard in the cinema exhibition market.
Viewers’ conjectures have largely revolved around the unfolding of the Avengers’ temporal journey and Steve Rogers’ choice to remain in the past alongside Peggy Carter. These events are seen as the likely central point of the new material, given how such time manipulation could directly impact the expected chaotic multiverse scenario of “Doomsday”. With the Russo brothers returning to direct both productions, the interconnection between the two films suggests a deliberate design.
The world premiere of “Avengers: Endgame – Part 2” is scheduled for September 25th, with “Avengers: The World’s End” arriving later on December 18th.
