Singer Lionel Richie has rescheduled two performances of his tour, initially scheduled for Friday in Chicago and Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. The decision was made after the artist unexpectedly ended his show on Wednesday in St. Paul, Minnesota, after reporting feeling unwell.

In a statement posted on social media, the United Center in Chicago reported on Thursday that the postponement was due to medical advice. The team has requested that the renowned Rock and Roll Hall of Famer take time to rest to ensure his full recovery before resuming the stage on Tuesday in Pittsburgh. The affected events will have new dates announced soon.

Details of the incident during the St. Paul concert

During the performance in St. Paul on Wednesday, Richie had already completed 55 minutes on stage when he expressed to those present that he felt dizzy and had a strange sensation. In a notable moment, he performed “Dancing on the Ceiling”, one of his best-known and most vibrant songs, sitting on a staircase, something new for the song as he revealed to the 10,000 spectators at the Grand Casino Arena.

Afterwards, the artist went to the grand piano to perform “Three Times a Lady” and then announced the need for a break. This interval was not part of the original script for his show, which was scheduled to last 90 minutes.

The band, made up of five musicians, remained on stage for approximately 15 minutes, before leaving in silence. About 40 minutes had passed since Richie’s departure, saxophonist Dino Soldo reappeared to inform the audience that the singer was not in a position to continue and, therefore, the show would be closed.

The start of the “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour

Wednesday’s performance marked the beginning of the “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour, which brings together Richie and the group Earth, Wind & Fire, highlighting the importance of this event in the artists’ agenda. This was the debut show in a series of concerts awaited by fans.

To date, the artist’s representatives have not issued any official statement regarding the situation.
