Samsung’s June security update for the Galaxy S22 surprises users, contradicting schedule
Samsung has just made the security package available for June 2026 for the Galaxy S22 series models. The measure comes as a surprise to owners, given that in February this year the manufacturer had downgraded these devices to only receive security updates every three months.
However, it is important to highlight that this new version does not represent the long-awaited One UI 8.5. The expectation is that the Galaxy S22 line, according to previous announcements, will not be included with the company’s next major interface.
Why the June update for the Galaxy S22 was unexpected
The arrival of the update is considered unusual by experts. After the release of the security package in May, the schedule previously established for the series indicated that the next update would only be released in August of this year. This anticipation, therefore, reveals Samsung’s flexibility in its update policy for older models.
This June package incorporates the usual security fixes to improve the operating system, addressing several identified holes and flaws. Initially, the update is being distributed to users of the Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra models who have their smartphones linked to an operator in the United States.
The new version carries the build number GZF3, although this identification may vary depending on the specific model of the device, the geographic region or the telephone operator. So far, Samsung has not released information about the expansion of this update to other parts of the world.

As the company had already fulfilled its security obligation by releasing the May package, there is no clarity as to whether this month’s update will be made available globally. Despite the uncertainty, the expectation among users is that Samsung will extend availability to more markets.
The Galaxy S22 line was launched in 2022, operating with One UI 4 and the promise of four major Android system updates. The system update life cycle for these devices is expected to end with One UI 8.
