Nissan is in the process of removing the Sentra model from its line of vehicles available in Brazil. The manufacturer still sells the last remaining units of the medium sedan, a car that was notable for its careful finishing, comfort and reliable mechanical equipment, but which found it difficult to remain relevant in a rapidly changing automotive sector, dominated by SUVs, hybrid cars and technological innovations.

Imported from Mexico, the Sentra sold in the South American country maintained the essence of a mid-size sedan: its three-volume body, ample interior space, a trunk with good capacity and a cabin with a refinement superior to that of most compact SUVs sold in the same price range. Under the hood, the model was equipped with a 2.0 naturally aspirated gasoline engine, generating 151 horsepower and 20 kgfm of torque, always coupled to an Xtronic CVT automatic transmission.

Despite a balanced mechanical package, the Sentra had to face increasingly strong competition. On the one hand, the Toyota Corolla continues to be the historical benchmark among mid-size sedans. On the other, electrified vehicles, such as the BYD King, began to challenge the segment, offering advanced technology, efficient consumption and competitive prices. In this scenario, Sentra found itself in a difficult position to persuade consumers to opt for a more traditional sedan.

Meanwhile, the N7 electric sedan, the result of a partnership between Dongfeng and Nissan in China, has already been spotted testing on Brazilian roads and appears as a potential successor to the vacancy left by the Sentra.

This vehicle is built on a modern modular architecture developed specifically for electrified cars. Its dimensions are considerably larger than those of the Sentra, with a length of 4.93 meters and a wheelbase of 2.91 meters, contrasting with the more restrained proposal of a medium or compact sedan.

Market trends and the devaluation of sedans

The transformation of the automotive market reveals a change in the preferences of buyers in this category of automobiles. While compact and mid-size SUVs have gained ground in almost all segments, traditional sedans have seen their popularity decline among Brazilian consumers. In 2026, data from Fenabrave indicated that the Sentra sold just over 341 units, with just nine sales recorded in June, demonstrating the impact of this change.

Despite being considered a good car, the Nissan Sentra began to show signs of aging. Factors such as the eight-inch multimedia center, the panel with analog displays and the lack of deeper modernization contributed to the model’s loss of attractiveness. In other international markets, the new generation of Sentra has already debuted with an updated design, greater onboard technology and larger screens, but the version sold in Brazil remained based on the previous configuration.

Its technical sheet featured a 2.0 gasoline engine, with 151 hp, 20 kgfm of torque, Xtronic CVT transmission, front-wheel drive and a trunk with a capacity of 466 liters. The removal of the Sentra from the Brazilian catalog signals Nissan’s focus on strengthening the presence of models such as the Kicks and Kait. Furthermore, the brand still maintains the Versa 1.6 in its offer, which stands out for its attractive price and good value for money.

The sedan faced significant losses, not only to its direct competitors, but also in the face of the rise of newer SUVs, hybrid models and options with greater liquidity in the pre-owned vehicle market. The 2026 Sentra in Brazil had suggested prices of R$ 174,490 in the Advance CVT version and R$ 198,790 in the Exclusive CVT Interior Premium, although dealerships offer bonuses, making it an advantageous acquisition for those looking for a car with this profile.

Abroad, in markets such as Mexico and the United States, the new generation of Nissan Sentra has undergone significant updates, receiving a renewed look, improved interior finishing and larger screens. The automaker, however, chose to maintain the essence of the 2.0 engine and CVT transmission in these configurations.
