Nahuel Molina’s arrival at Roma intensifies the dispute at right-back and changes the scenario for Wesley
The Roma club is finalizing the signing of right-back Nahuel Molina, which means that Wesley will have a new direct competitor for the vacancy. The Italian team presented an offer of 19 million euros (equivalent to R$112.1 million) to Atlético de Madrid, which shows interest in negotiating the player, world champion with Argentina in 2022, on August 6, 2026.
During the current transfer window, the Roma team saw the departure of right-back Zeki Celik to Juventus. Despite already having Wesley in the squad, the club looked for another option on the market. This movement indicates that the former Flamengo athlete will probably play outside of his usual position, being moved to a more advanced role, as has already happened for much of the 2025/2026 season.

In the previous season, Wesley performed well under Gasperini, participating in 30 Italian Championship matches. However, the Brazilian player was used predominantly on the left side of the field and in a more offensive position, different from the line of four defenders he occupied at Flamengo. He even addressed this adaptation in an interview with the Brazilian team before being removed from the list for the World Cup due to an injury.

“I spoke to Danilo about this and told him that I feel a certain difference. I even mentioned to Juan, the national team’s technical coordinator, that I need to train more to adjust my body, since I am only playing on the left. However, I believe that this has added to my football, as I can do both roles, although on the left I am much more offensive than defensive”, said Wesley at the beginning of June.
Even with Nahuel Molina’s credibility, Atlético de Madrid was prone to selling the player to raise funds and seek new athletes for Simeone’s team. Furthermore, the Madrid club already has Marcos Llorente and Marc Pubill for the position.
