Walmart and Sam’s Club customers in the United States will soon be able to make payments directly with their cell phones or smart watches. Retail chains are finally introducing the contactless payment option in their stores, an update that promises greater convenience for consumers.

The implementation of the contactless payment system will begin in some Walmart and Sam’s Club units from August 24th. The feature is expected to be available in all stores and clubs in the United States by the end of 2026. For chain gas stations, the technology is expected to be fully integrated by mid-2027. Additionally, eligible cards from Walmart, Sam’s Club and OnePay can be added to compatible digital wallets.

The introduction of this technology by retail giants takes considerable time, especially when observing the advancement of other payment solutions on the market. Systems like Apple Pay, launched in 2014, and Google Wallet, which is even older, have been consolidated for more than a decade. The late inclusion of contactless payment by Walmart and Sam’s Club reflects an adaptation to a convenience that many consumers already expect and use widely in other establishments.
