WhatsApp has started testing a new feature that alerts users about incomplete messages. Available in the latest beta for Android, the feature sends a notification if the chat screen is closed before the text is sent. This new feature aims to help with organization, given that constantly switching between applications on the phone increases the chance of starting a response and not completing it.
Understand how the new draft alert works
The mechanism for this reminder was detailed by application experts and integrates with the device’s alert manager. When a user starts typing a message and decides to leave the conversation before pressing the send button, the content is automatically saved as a draft. The difference now is that when you minimize the application, a silent timer is triggered. If the message is not returned within a minute, WhatsApp triggers a push notification. This alert appears on the Android dashboard with the title “Your draft”, indicating the name of the contact or group. By tapping the notification, the user is instantly redirected to the conversation, making it easier to send the pending text.
Changes from the current draft label
It is important to differentiate new push notifications from existing visual labels. Before this update, WhatsApp already offered a green label with the word “Draft” in the main list of conversations in beta version 2.24.20.24, showing a preview of the incomplete text. However, this label was only visible if the user opened the application. Active notification overcomes this limitation by ensuring that the reminder of a pending communication draws attention more effectively, even when the app is not in the foreground.
Availability and focus on Android improvements
The incomplete message reminder feature has been implemented in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.35.2 for Android. The company responsible for the application is releasing the functionality in a controlled manner, reaching only a select group of testers. This restricted initial phase is standard procedure, allowing developers to monitor the feature’s performance and fix any glitches before its large-scale rollout to the general public.
