Australian actress Nicole Kidman, now 59 years old, stated in September during media discussions in Hollywood that she was entirely prepared to step away from acting at age 23 to marry actor Tom Cruise, just as promotional activities began for the feature Practical Magic: Feitiço de Amor. Several peers and industry confidants confronted the performer with explicit warnings against abandoning her emerging Hollywood trajectory for a personal commitment.
Addressing the direct warnings about the irreversible damage such a choice could inflict on her working prospects, Kidman gave a defiant response: “Of course I’m going to throw my career away.”
Romance on set led to a decade of marriage
Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise first crossed paths during the production of Days of Thunder before establishing a marriage that endured for more than a decade. The romance moved fast. Reflecting on her early twenties, the actress affirmed that building a shared life alongside one of the entertainment industry’s most recognizable figures felt remarkably natural at 22: “We fell madly in love and it was that simple.”

Decades of screen roles followed the high-profile union
Kidman repeatedly challenged public scrutiny regarding their bond by insisting she only wanted to marry the man she loved, even as she faced relentless photographer harassment and the suffocating label of a celebrity spouse. She ultimately developed a diverse 43-year acting career, securing acclaimed positions across both American feature films and television productions.
Kidman built a lasting body of work through key projects such as the 1999 feature Eyes Wide Shut, the 2001 releases The Others and Moulin Rouge, as well as the television series Big Little Lies, which broadcast seasons in 2017 and 2019.
