Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes called off a scheduled public statement at the Supremo Tribunal Federal in Brasília on the morning of September 10 as internal operational impasses deepened inside the highest judicial body of Brazil.

Court communication officers circulated the initial schedule of the media gathering without outlining specific agenda topics for accredited journalists, before issuing a secondary note declaring that the appearance would be rescheduled at an opportune moment. The planned statement was abruptly called off.

Judicial peers reported through unofficial channels that Alexandre de Moraes intended to address persistent objections regarding his management of the fake news inquiry and present a comprehensive overview of how investigators conducted the inquiries.

The sudden press summons came exactly twenty-four hours after Chief Justice Edson Fachin enacted formal administrative determinations designed to suppress growing friction among colleagues on the bench. The public briefing request emerged only after those supervisory measures took effect.

Under the signed executive decrees, Edson Fachin stripped Alexandre de Moraes of rapporteur duties over several dockets tied to the false news investigation and relocated direct authority over all corresponding motions to the court presidency.

Established formally by the Supremo Tribunal Federal in 2019, the fake news inquiry investigates threats, fraudulent information, false reports of crimes, and public insults launched against justices and their immediate relatives. The inquiry remains active.

Presidency assumes direct control over ongoing tribunal investigations

Chief Justice Edson Fachin declared on September 9 that the leadership of the tribunal must safeguard the institutional integrity of the court against an escalating pattern of procedural collisions and jurisdictional overlaps that demanded immediate administrative intervention to restore orderly deliberations.

Institutional tensions originated during criminal proceedings involving financial entity Banco Master and escalated rapidly once the Federal Police transmitted intercepted text message caches recovered from the mobile phone of businessman Daniel Vorcaro. That seized evidence produced immediate gridlock across several judicial offices.

The confiscated digital conversations referenced direct communication attempts directed at Alexandre de Moraes and ignited internal disputes regarding which justices held proper legal jurisdiction over the emerging evidence.

Separate judicial decrees authored by Alexandre de Moraes, André Mendonça, and Flávio Dino clashed directly with investigatory submissions compiled by the Federal Police and formal stances submitted by the Procuradoria-Geral da República. These competing jurisdictional arguments deepened existing disagreements across the judicial branches.

The rapid accumulation of jurisdictional disputes ultimately compelled Edson Fachin to invoke administrative prerogatives and centralize every related case directly under the operational custody of the Supremo Tribunal Federal presidency.

Edson Fachin designated September 15 for an in-person plenary session where the full bench will review the complete dossier submitted by Federal Police detectives. That collective determination will establish how the court directs the underlying investigations going forward.

The canceled media briefing would have stood as the inaugural public statement from Alexandre de Moraes following the formal reallocation of judicial powers executed by court leadership on September 10.
