McLaren previewed its future lineup to franchise retailers during closed-door meetings, revealing plans for an SUV alongside an everyday grand tourer and a mid-engined hybrid supercar priced from $313,000 for 2027. Retailers gained early access to the upcoming portfolio prior to any public unveiling.

Corporate leadership and ownership transitions in Woking prompted a strategic departure from the traditional exclusive focus on two-seat sports cars. Representatives who attended the private presentation confirmed seeing vehicle formats designed to enter previously unexplored market categories. The company maintained public silence.

Dealer briefings outline a release schedule requiring McLaren to introduce at least one distinct vehicle each calendar year through 2028 as the showroom catalogue broadens substantially. The most radical addition within the strategic roadmap involves a long-debated high-riding utility vehicle.

While commercial rivals Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley, and Porsche generated massive revenues by capitalizing on global demand for ultra-luxury utility vehicles, McLaren previously rejected high-riding designs but is now officially reversing that long-standing competitive stance.

Designated under the internal project code P47, the upcoming four-door utility vehicle offers seating for five occupants with market availability scheduled for 2028. Franchise partners inspecting a full-scale clay mock-up stated the body exceeds the overall dimensions of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT while incorporating aggressively sculpted exterior surfaces, an athletic roofline profile, and massive 24-inch alloy wheels to command presence in the ultra-luxury segment. Showroom operators examined the prototype.

British brand develops four-seat grand tourer to replace GTS

The strategic product transformation also features a front-engine grand tourer conceived as a daily driver for motorists seeking performance without elevated ride height. This low-slung model is positioned to succeed the GTS by integrating a practical 2+2 passenger arrangement.

Direct competitors pursue similar grand touring ambitions, as seen with the Lanzador concept from Lamborghini and the DB12 from Aston Martin. Meanwhile, Ferrari developed the all-electric Luce platform from Maranello despite facing significant public criticism over battery-only motivation. Segment competition remains intensely aggressive.

Electrified V6 powertrain will deliver 810 horsepower

Following the retirement of the 720S, 765LT, and 750S lineages along with the concluding 788HS, McLaren continues developing traditional mid-engined supercars. Codenamed P34, the upcoming sports car utilizes a twin-turbocharged V6 mated to a hybrid system that generates 810 hp.

McLaren engineered the combustion unit and transmission internally, achieving approximately 800 pound-feet or 1,085 Newton-meters of torque from the electrified assembly. The chassis measures longer than the Artura and incorporates McLaren F1 visual cues alongside an upscale leather cabin and a tempered-glass engine window over the V6. Pricing begins near $313,000.

Commercial distribution for the hybrid supercar begins in 2027 with an initial target of 1,000 customer deliveries during its introductory sales cycle, while formal release dates for the utility vehicle and grand tourer remain unannounced.

The British manufacturer retains its foundational focus on performance vehicles while broadening operations beyond a single niche. This product expansion marks the most substantial operational shift for McLaren since the iconic F1 debuted during the 1990s. The brand enters new segments.

Executive planning reflects consumer appetite for exotic vehicles delivering rear-seat practicality, cargo capacity, and grand touring refinement. With competing entries like the Ferrari Purosangue, Aston Martin DBX, and Lamborghini Urus proving profitable across global dealerships, McLaren focuses resources on capturing share within the premium performance utility class.
