Floriano de Azevedo Marques stops Deltan Dallagnol 2026 race
Justice Floriano de Azevedo Marques of the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral ordered the immediate halt of Deltan Dallagnol’s campaign activities for the Senate in Paraná for the 2026 elections. The decision targets the former prosecutor who sought to run for office in the upcoming statewide contest.
Campaign funding and media appearances face immediate court ban
The injunction bars public electoral funding transfers to the campaign and freezes any campaign funds already in Dallagnol’s possession in Paraná. It also removes the candidate from political broadcasts on both radio and television networks. Furthermore, organizers must bar the candidate from attending scheduled electoral debates during the race.
The national electoral court ruled in favor of a challenge filed jointly by the Coligação Paraná Para Todos and the Federação Brasil da Esperança against an earlier authorization from the Tribunal Regional Eleitoral do Paraná. The order took effect immediately.
Past administrative probes at national council drive the sanction
The determination followed the jurisprudence set by the electoral court in 2023, when the judges unanimously rejected Deltan Dallagnol’s federal deputy candidacy under the Ineligibility Law. The magistrate emphasized that Deltan Dallagnol resigned from his post as federal prosecutor in November 2021 while facing two closed disciplinary proceedings alongside fifteen additional active inquiries before the Conselho Nacional do Ministério Público to circumvent administrative consequences. Those seventeen procedures prompted the court to block the candidate from public office.
Floriano de Azevedo Marques stated that a regional tribunal lacks the authority to overturn an understanding already established by the superior plenary under identical factual and legal circumstances. The justice also stressed the threat to the 8.4 million voters of Paraná, explaining that voiding votes later would force an expensive new election funded by taxpayers.
The full bench of the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral will now review the preliminary decision for final confirmation.
