The Federal Police (PF) is checking whether Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) left Brazil through the border with Argentina and flew to the United States. No official body has confirmed that he left the country, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Officers served Flávio with the order on Monday (26) in Brasília, as he left the house where his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro, is under house arrest. The order gave him 24 hours to hand over his common and diplomatic passports, and that period ends on Tuesday. As of the latest update, he had not delivered the documents.

Argentine site reports a flight across the border to the United States

An Argentine news site reported that Flávio crossed the border using his national identity card and boarded a private jet in Puerto Iguazú, in Misiones province, bound for the United States. Flightradar24 data show the aircraft flew from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazú on Monday night, with no recorded departure toward the United States. Sources in the PF leadership said the senator did not pass through any official migration checkpoint in the previous hours.

Senator’s campaign and Argentine government deny he left

The spokesperson for the Argentine presidency denied that Flávio entered the country. Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), coordinator of Flávio’s campaign, told a columnist that he “did not leave.” Fabio Wajngarten, a lawyer and ally of the Bolsonaro family, classified the information as false, and in a video Flávio said he never intended to leave Brazil and would comply with the court order.

Moraes also bans contact with lawyer Willer Tomaz

Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), also barred Flávio from leaving the country and from contacting Willer Tomaz, a lawyer who is also under investigation. Flávio is the target of an STF case that examines suspected money laundering involving Tomaz. According to a report cited in the case, the PF asked for the seizure of the passport seven minutes after the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) confirmed the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the runoff, and Moraes acted without consulting the Office of the Prosecutor General (PGR).
