A red Porsche valued at R$1.5 million has been handed to Antônio Cintra, known as Toinho Cintra, an agribusiness owner from Maceió, after he bet on the re-election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The handover was recorded on video at a gas station in Arapiraca, in the Agreste region of Alagoas.
Cintra said his rival is a businessman from Arapiraca known as Madeirão, a supporter of Flávio Bolsonaro, candidate of the PL party. Madeirão put up the car, while Cintra staked the same amount in cash. The full name of Madeirão has not been made public.
Terms of the bet struck on September 29
Cintra, 48, was born in Major Isidoro and lives in Maceió. He said the deal was struck in an office through a mutual friend, who held the money and the car until the result was known. A third businessman acted as guarantor of the cash. The reports checked do not give public details on the conditions or on how the agreement was formalized.
- Bet signed: September 29, 2026
- Runoff won by Lula: October 25, 2026
- Lula: 64,256,232 votes, 51.79% of valid votes (TSE)
- Flávio Bolsonaro: 59,826,041 votes, 48.21% of valid votes (TSE)
- Lula in Alagoas: 60.77% of valid votes in the runoff (TRE)
Reports disagree on the day the car was handed over
The reports checked by the newsroom do not agree on the delivery date. One says the car was handed over on Monday (26), while another says Cintra collected the prize on Tuesday (27) at a station in Arapiraca. The newsroom has not confirmed which version is correct, and this text does not adopt either one.
The model and year of the car were also not stated in the reports checked. One outlet’s details on the vehicle do not appear in the other sources, so they remain unconfirmed.
Cintra watched the runoff count at home with his wife
Cintra said he followed the vote count at home with his wife. He said the tight race raised his tension whenever the gap between the candidates shrank. “It was no longer about the car. I was thinking about the people,” he said.
He also said he thought a comeback in the first round was possible, and that he worried when Flávio Bolsonaro
, by his account, had more than three million votes of lead. That figure was not checked against an official source.About his rival, Cintra claimed that Madeirão celebrated victory before the count ended, after seeing Flávio ahead in the polls, and spread the claim around Arapiraca. “I have always voted for Lula, and the other bettor is an extreme Bolsonarista,” he told the press. He added: “Elections are only celebrated after the ballots are counted.”
Plans for the Porsche include a PT star sticker and a sale in two or three months
Cintra said he travelled to Arapiraca to collect the prize, a drive of about 130 kilometers to Maceió. He said he drove carefully because the Porsche is a low sports car of high value. On the way he played a song by Lula and gave thanks, in his words, for the country and for winning the bet.
The car is red, the same color as the PT, and Cintra has already ordered a sticker with a star to personalize it. He said he travels often and that a low car does not suit his routine. “I’ll keep it for two or three months, enjoy it a little, and then sell it. It’s a car that’s too expensive for me.”
A 2022 bet also paid off with a Ram pickup truck
In 2022, Cintra bet on Lula’s victory over Jair Bolsonaro, with the same rival, and won a Ram pickup. The value of that vehicle is estimated at R$500,000, based on a similar bet.
The R$1.5 million figure for the Porsche comes from the winner and from the reports. No appraisal or price table was cited to confirm it.
