Firefighters and military police are working at the site of a four-story building that collapsed on Rua Maria Joaquina, in the Brás neighborhood of central São Paulo, on Friday evening, November 6, 2026. The collapse left rescue teams searching a pile of rubble for people who may still be trapped.
The Corpo de Bombeiros, the state fire service, sent its full team of rescuers and vehicles to the scene. Military police and municipal agents are holding the perimeter, and the street stays closed so rescue vehicles can pass and crowds stay away from the busy commercial district.

How rescuers are searching the debris
Rescue workers started a visual and hands-on sweep of the debris as soon as the street was sealed off. Their first priority is to locate people trapped alive under the structure. The building came down suddenly early in the evening, and no consolidated count of injured people treated by doctors has been released yet.
