Chinese BYD recorded a significant increase of 164.8% in sales of electric commercial vehicles, excluding buses, in October 2025, reaching 4,483 units sold compared to 1,693 in the same period in 2024. The performance reflects the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions in the global market. Despite a 16.2% drop in sales of electric buses, which went from 438 to 367 units, the company maintains year-to-date growth. The expansion consolidates BYD as a leader in the electric commercial vehicle sector.
October’s result was not a record, but it is the highest since June 2025, according to data from CleanTechnica. The company, which already dominates the electric passenger vehicle market, is now focusing on the electrification of commercial fleets.
- 327.1% increase in sales of non-bus commercial vehicles in 2025.
- Total 42,000 units sold from January to October, compared to 9,849 in 2024.
- A 16.2% drop in electric bus sales in October, but an increase of 8.4% for the year.
YTD performance
BYD’s electric commercial vehicle sales, excluding buses, grew 327.1% from January to October 2025, totaling more than 42,000 units. This number contrasts with the 9,849 units sold in the same period in 2024, highlighting the rapid adoption of electrical technologies in the sector.
The company has invested in models such as electric trucks and vans, which meet the growing demand for sustainable logistics in the markets, especially in Asia and Europe.
Global market expansion
BYD expanded its presence in international markets, with exports growing 71.9% in 2024, totaling 417,204 vehicles. The strategy includes the introduction of new models adapted to regional needs.
In Brazil, the company announced the local production of electric commercial vehicles from 2026, taking advantage of tax incentives for imports. The initiative aims to strengthen competitiveness in the Latin American market.

Contrast in the electric bus sector
BYD’s electric bus sales fell 16.2% in October, from 438 to 367 units. Despite this, the year to date shows growth of 8.4%, with 3,706 units sold until September.
The reduction in October reflects adjustments in production and competition in the public transport sector. BYD, however, maintains global leadership in the manufacture of electric buses.
The company faces logistical and infrastructure challenges in some markets, but continues to invest in technologies to increase the autonomy and efficiency of its vehicles.
Focus on technology and sustainabilityentability
BYD has stood out for its vertical integration, producing batteries and components internally, which reduces costs and increases competitiveness. In 2024, the company installed 194.7 GWh of electric vehicle batteries and energy storage, a 29% increase compared to 2023.
This advance reinforces BYD’s position as one of the main battery suppliers in the world, serving automakers such as Tesla and Toyota. The company also plans to launch new electric truck models with greater range in 2026.
Strategies for 2026
BYD plans to intensify production of electric commercial vehicles, with a focus on emerging markets. The company also announced partnerships to develop charging infrastructure in countries such as Brazil and Thailand.
New models, such as long-range trucks, should be launched by the end of 2026, aiming to meet the demand for sustainable cargo transport.
