Sony and Honda electric vehicle integrates PlayStation and advanced autonomous driving features
The automotive industry is witnessing a significant transformation with the consolidation of the Sony Honda Mobility joint venture, which introduces the Afeela to the market. The electric model appears with the proposal to redefine the concept of personal transport, prioritizing the digital experience and on-board entertainment. Mais than a means of locomotion, the vehicle was designed to function as a technological living space, taking advantage of passengers’ travel time with state-of-the-art immersive features.
Integration with games and visual systems
The car’s dashboard is dominated by a visual interface developed with Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games’s graphics technology famous for its application in high-fidelity games. Essa choice allows the infotainment system to display navigation data and road conditions with stunning realism, transforming the driver and passengers’ interaction with the car. The proposal is that the software is as fundamental to the user experience as the vehicle’s mechanical engineering.
Video game enthusiasts will find Afeela a native environment for leisure, thanks to the ability to play home console games. The system supports remote use of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, allowing games to continue right where they left off, whether during traffic or while the car recharges. Compatibility with the DualSense controller ensures that tactile feedback and command accuracy are maintained within the cabin.
To complement the visual immersion, the sound system uses 360 Reality Audio technology, distributing speakers throughout the interior, including the headrests. The audio system also has a curious function for purists: the simulation of classic engine noises. It is possible to synchronize the tram’s acceleration with the sound of iconic vehicles, such as the Honda RA272 from Fórmula 1, creating a nostalgic atmosphere in the midst of modernity.
Smart sensors and production
Safety and autonomous driving capabilities are managed by the Qualcomm digital chassis Snapdragon. Este high-performance processor performs 800 trillion operations per second, analyzing data from more than 40 sensors, including cameras, radars and LiDAR. The technological device monitors the surroundings in 360 degrees to identify pedestrians and obstacles, aiming to achieve level 3 autonomy in specific traffic situations.
The exterior design incorporates “Media Bar”, a screen located between the headlights that serves as a communication channel with the external environment. The device displays useful information such as battery status and weather alerts, as well as allowing visual customizations. The model is manufactured at the Honda unit in Ohio, in Estados Unidos, guaranteeing the Japanese brand’s construction quality for deliveries to the North American market.
