GoPro announced this Wednesday that it would cut 23% of its global workforce by the end of 2026. The measure affects 145 employees of the company headquartered at San Mateo, at Califórnia, which had 631 employees at the end of the first quarter. The restructuring plan seeks to reduce operating costs and improve financial leverage after negative results in fiscal year 2025. The company reported that the process begins in the second quarter of 2026 and should be substantially completed by the end of the year.

The estimated cost of the dismissal ranges between $11.5 million and $15 million, including severance packages and health benefits. The bulk of the charges are expected to be recorded in the third quarter of 2026. Essa is the third significant round of cuts since 2024, when the company had already reduced staff on two separate occasions.

Restructuring plan aims to return to profitability

GoPro faces pressure from fierce competition in the action camera segment and macroeconomic factors that have impacted sales. In fiscal 2025, revenue totaled $652 million, down 19% from the previous year. The company recorded an operating loss of $83.3 million in the period.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, revenue was around 202 million dollars, with a negative net result. Apesar Despite the challenges, the company maintained revenue from subscriptions and services close to 106 million dollars throughout the year, thanks to better user adoption and retention rates.

Cost reduction includes previous cuts

The current decision follows rounds of adjustments in 2024 that also aimed to contain expenses. GoPro indicated that the layoffs are part of ongoing efforts to align the cost structure with market realities. The company did not detail which areas will be most affected by the cuts.

The plan approved by the board of directors foresees that the largest portion of termination expenses will occur between the second and fourth quarters of 2026. The company expects the measures to generate greater operational efficiency in the medium term.

Focus on innovation with new GP3 processor

Even with the reduction in staff, GoPro is optimistic about the future. The company is betting on the GP3 processor, next generation and with features focused on artificial intelligence, to drive a new product cycle. Esse chip promises twice the pixel processing power compared to its predecessor, as well as better low-light performance.

The first cameras equipped with GP3 should hit the market in the coming months. The technology will be applied to action cameras, 360-degree models, vlogging equipment and premium compact cinema options. The presentation of new features is scheduled for sector events in 2026.

Implementation schedule details

The restructuring process formally begins in the second quarter of 2026. Most of the cuts are expected to occur gradually until December. GoPro said it will communicate details to affected employees as the timeline progresses.

The company reinforced that the measure is global and covers different functions in the organization. Até At this time, there is no information about the impact on specific units outside of Estados Unidos.

Expectations for future releases

The introduction of GP3 represents one of the main pillars of the recovery strategy. The processor includes a dedicated neural processing unit for scene recognition and subject detection, which should increase image quality and energy efficiency. GoPro highlights that the new hardware paves the way for professional applications in smaller formats.

The company plans to expand the product line beyond traditional action cameras, seeking greater participation in niches such as vlogging and high-end compact cinema.

Market context for action cameras

The portable camera segment faces saturation and advancement from competitors with solutions integrated into smartphones and drones. GoPro seeks to differentiate itself through specialized hardware and artificial intelligence integration for automatic editing and advanced stabilization.

Cost reduction occurs in parallel with investments in research and development for new models. The company did not provide detailed financial projections for 2026 beyond the immediate impacts of the restructuring plan.

Cuts affect current structure of 631 employees

With 631 employees at the end of the first quarter, the departure of 145 people will leave the company with around 486 employees after the process is completed. GoPro indicated that the cuts aim to reduce operating expenses without compromising strategic areas of innovation.

The measure was communicated through a regulatory file with the securities commission Estados Unidos. The company remains listed on the stock exchange and should update the market on the plan’s progress in the coming quarters.
