Investigação points out gas explosion without fire
According to information from Setúbal’s CDOS, the explosion was caused by gas and did not result in a subsequent fire. The finding reveals that the leak reached a critical concentration inside the establishment, generating the detonation that damaged the physical structure of the cafe.
The specific cause of the leak remains under investigation. Inspeções techniques must determine whether there has been a failure in gas equipment, inadequate maintenance or another risk factor. The scenario without secondary fire mitigated the possible consequences, although the impact of the explosion was enough to cause multiple injuries.

The explosion without subsequent fire marks a different scenario from other similar accidents recorded in Portugal. Especialistas point out that gas leaks require sensitive detection, as small concentrations can quickly reach explosive levels in closed environments.
The injured firefighter is among the growing number of emergency professionals facing occupational hazards. Sua situation highlights the vulnerability of operators in environments with structural instability or previously unidentified chemical contamination.
Próximas investigative steps
Garcia, Orta and São José hospitals monitor the recovery of the injured. Hospital of São José monitors the victim in serious condition, while the others progress in medical care for trauma-related injuries.
