Santa Monica Studio presented the next main chapter in the God of War franchise. The game is called God of War Laufey and puts Faye, also known as Laufey, in the main role.
The announcement took place this Tuesday, June 2, 2026. The reveal includes a trailer with first details on gameplay, story and new characters.
Faye awakens in the afterlife of the gods
The story begins after Faye’s funeral. Ela wakes up in a strange land called Todo-Time, a transcendent realm where gods and creatures from different mythologies meet. The place functions as a cradle and end point for the magic.
Faye discovers that his plans to protect Kratos and Atreus are in jeopardy. Para To save those she loves, she needs to fight in the afterlife and unravel mysteries about the true nature of this world. The place can be both a paradise and a prison.
The plot explores what happens to the gods after death, a theme that already appeared in Odin’s concerns during Ragnarök. Sekhmet and Begtse are two of the gods shown who receive Faye hostilely.
Santa Monica Studio defines pillars of the new God of War
The team kept the core elements of the series: intimate and brutal combat, rich world exploration, and story as the main focus. The game combines the fluidity of movement of the Greek era with the world-building of the Norse era.
Ariel Lawrence, game director, and Cory Barlog, studio creative lead, highlighted the importance of creating a unique experience for Faye. Ela has always been a formidable warrior, capable of taking on even Thor.
The development prioritized gameplay that respects the character’s legacy. Faye uses his agility and strength to create a combat style that feels new but familiar to fans.
Combate gains aerial mobility and soul system
The combat system allows Faye to transition easily between ground and air without pausing in the action. Essa hyper-responsiveness increases offensive and defensive options against powerful enemies.
Como Mão Dourada of Jötnar, Faye has expanded powers in Todo-Tempo. Ela can strike enemies with his golden palm to separate the soul from the body, attack the soul directly, or throw it at other opponents.
