A man in his 30s has been detained by police on suspicion of attempted murder following a knife attack on Monday night in Belfast. The action took place around 10:30 pm local time in the Kinnaird Avenue area, in the north of the city. The victim, a man in his 40s, suffered serious injuries to his face, neck and back. He was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
Residents of the region reacted quickly to the confrontation. Videos circulating show people, including one with a rugby stick, confronting the attacker until authorities arrived. The police arrived at the scene within minutes and recognized the intervention of civilians.
