Renowned Portuguese coach José Mourinho is back at Real Madrid, confirming a new cycle at the helm of the Spanish team with a contract that extends until June 2029. At 63 years old, the coach, who recently left Benfica, once again assumes the technical command of the Merengue club, where he had already worked between 2010 and 2013, and will present himself for the pre-season on July 13th.

A strategic and financially significant return

Mourinho’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu was preceded by a significant financial investment. Real Madrid paid a termination fine of 15 million euros, equivalent to around R$88.6 million, to release the coach from his contract with Benfica. This agreement between the clubs had already been communicated to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

The coach’s confirmation comes less than a week after Florentino Pérez’s re-election as president of Real Madrid. During his campaign, Pérez himself had anticipated hiring Mourinho, if his competitor, Enrique Riquelme, beat him, indicating a strategic move for the new mandate.

Expectations and the new challenge in Madrid

José Mourinho’s challenge at Real Madrid now extends until mid-2029, marking a long period to redefine the club’s future. Before it became official, the Spanish team had already announced the departure of Álvaro Arbeloa as coach, paving the way for the Portuguese.

With his arrival, the first speculations about possible reinforcements arise. Journalist reports indicate that Mourinho has already expressed interest in signing midfielder Bernardo Silva, signaling his intentions to shape the squad.

Remembering the first successful passage

In his first experience in charge of Real Madrid, between 2010 and 2013, José Mourinho worked directly with Florentino Pérez, a period in which he won important titles for the club. The expectation is that it can replicate and even surpass previous performance.

Among Mourinho’s achievements in his initial tenure, the following stand out:

  • Spanish Championship (2011/12 season)
  • Copa del Rey (2010/11 season)
  • Spanish Super Cup (2012 edition)
